We love synthesizers. Some have a preference for classic synthesizers, for others, the designs can’t be crazy enough. I love to report on synthesizers or instruments that try to offer something new, even go far beyond the classic. Kodamo, known for its EssenceFM Monster FM Synth is now also going an experimental way with its new announcement. Ok, not brand new, they showed it on Facebook already in November.

Kodamo from France introduced the Bitmasker, an interesting new portable Synthesizer. Currently, only a prototype / render but definitely worth writing about it. There is not much control on the interface. Two knobs, a screen, and many buttons with which you can go through the individual points. It looks like every button of the main menu has an A / B architecture. You can find here wave, filter, ADSR, envelope, mod, play, pattern, scale, tune/portm, effects, arps… So everything you need in a synthesizer.

According to the developer, Bitmasker creates its sounds using binary masks. It has 16 super-rich oscillators full of harmonics, with resonant filters, and weird modulation options. Looks like there are 16 different oscillator algorithms, each with its own sound. Further, it has a built-in speaker that provides a clear sound with improved bass response by using the whole device as a bass-reflex enclosure. That also allows to feel the vibrations while playing, like on a real instrument.
