I have a special relationship with ArcSyn because I beta-tested it for the developer back in 2017. Unfortunately, this special synth hasn’t received much attention from the community and developer. Evident with the huge amount of new synth plugins per year that others go out of focus.
But in June, there was a sign of life. SPC Plugins released a ArcSyn public beta with native Apple Silicon. However, this hasn’t been fixed since June.
The version works on my macOS Apple Silicon system, but some bugs haven’t been fixed yet. For example, no presets load for me. According to the forums, this is a known problem. Steven of SPC Plugins confirmed to me that there are issues that he will fix. But it’s unknown when. I hope soonish.
I wanted to let you know before you jump on the deal. I love the plugin, but I’m unsure how much maintenance it will get. Maybe this sale motivates the developer to update it more regularly.
SPC Plugins ArcSyn
ArcSyn is a unique Synthesizer plugin with an original concept. It has three oscillators that use no samples or wavetables. All three use algorithmic macro oscillator waveforms with various types.
It includes classic waveforms, various FM tone generators, and also exotic sounds like resonant, pulse dividers, sub-harmonics, and colorful noises. Just as powerful is the dual filter engine.
Each filter features a plethora of filter types modeled on the Oberheim Matrix 12. You get classic ones (LP, SVF…) but also unusual ones like frequency shifter, scramble, comb, or multi-alias. Both the oscillators and filter configuration options give you plenty of ways to craft sounds from scratch.
The modulation is also not super classic. First, four AHDSR envelope generators are available and mappable to almost every parameter using the mod matrix. On the other side, you have eight super fun LFOs.
In addition to the classic LFO generation, you can create custom wave sequencing with hundreds of classic and unusual waveforms. With these, you can generate very complex sounds that constantly evolve.
To refine your sounds, SPC Plugins ArcSyn also offers a 3-slot multi-FX processor with a wide range of effects, including delays, reverb, chorus, flanger, frequency shifter, and more. To get you started, it ships with over 500 presets that show what the synth is capable of—but only if you have access to them.

ArcSyn is a great deal at $17.99. It’s not fat-sounding but a unique synth, with many shaping options. However, you should know that the plugin hasn’t been maintained for a while, and the beta version is still buggy.
