SampleScience Modular Synth VCO is a new free plugin for mac and Win that captures the sound of the Doepfer 101-1 analog oscillator.
New week new news. I hope it will be an exciting week. Let’s start Monday with a new free virtual instrument for macOS and Windows.
SampleScience, a virtual instrument developer, published a new free plugin this morning. It’s sample-based and captures the sound of a best-known Eurorack analog oscillator.
Details
SampleScience Modular Synth VCO is a new free virtual synth instrument that features sampled waveforms from the Doepfer A-110-1 analog oscillator. According to the developer, it emulates the distinct sonic character of this module.
The core consists of an oscillator with all 4 VCO waveforms (rectangle, sine, triangle, and saw) that runs through a multimode filter with lowpass and highpass. From here, it goes into an amp (VCA) with three ranges and a multi-FX processor. You can find a distortion, delay, chorus, and reverb.
A multi-wave LFO and a straight ADSR envelope are available for adding movement to your sound. Sounds can be played in three voice modes, including monophonic, legato, and polyphonic. There is also a built-in keyboard.
SampleScience says
it’s designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia while enabling diverse sound exploration, this instrument caters to both lo-fi enthusiasts and those seeking a range of new textured tones.
First Impression
Nothing groundbreaking but a cool free virtual instrument plugin.
SampleScience Modular Synth VCO is now available as a free download with the option to donate voluntarily. It runs as a VST, VST3, and AU plugin on macOS (Intel + native Apple Silicon) and Windows.
