Propellerhead Software surprised users today. After the big sale of Reason 10 Upgrade from Limited/Essentials last month, the Swedish company announced today Reason 10 Intro. It replaces the Essentials version and is an introduction to the award-winning Reason 10 music production software. Not only the name changes but also includes a good amount of new features and ready-to-use instruments/effects/sounds.
The new version now features 10 instruments (Europa Shapeshifting Synthesizer, Thor Polyphonic Synthesizer, Subtractor, NN-XT Advanced sampler…) as well as 11 effects (RV7000 mkII advanced reverb, Scream 4 Distortion…). Reason Intro includes also full support for Rack Extension as well as VST support. The last feature turns the former Essentials version into a full-featured and affordable DAW (99$ / 79€).

This is actually a big deal, looks like it’s an actually usable version of Reason and not a completely hobbled one like essentials. I would have like to have seen a staggered upgrade path though, buying the extra tracks, instruments and FX that you wanted. Proppelerheads will need to market it hard though as to many Reason means, expensive and cut off from the rest of the DAW scene.
