Roland announced today a new Future Redefined event for the September. On six different days, they will announce new upcoming products. The super interesting day will be 9th of September.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Roland D-50, Roland announced for the 9th of September a special Synthesizer day where user can experience the D-50. The question is now what will Roland release on this day. I have some ideas:
- A software recreation is not longer possible because they have already released the Plug-in version of it in July
- Making the plug-in version plug-out compatible and usable with the System-8. That would be a very cool move and a good idea to give back musicians the feel of a hardware D-50
- A boutique D-50 would be interesting but for me a bit to complicated due of the menus
- A full hardware recreation would be also possible
- Or something completely different like a iPad app or a D-50 in the browser.
I can’t say something on this because we don’t have more informations about it.
Here are the dates
- Sept 7: Wind Day
- Sept 8: Guitar Day
- Sept 9: Synthesizer Day: Experience the D-50
- Sept 12: Organ Day
- Sept 13: Drum/Percussion Day
- Sept 14: Piano Day
Stay tuned for all future informations

I wish Roland (and most synth makers) would get back to making REAL synths… Emulations, virtual synths, etc. have a place in music but should NOT be the sole focus…
Roland’s heyday was the SH, Jupiter/Juno/JX/D days
SH 1, 2, 3, t, 7, 09, 101,
Jupiter 8, 6, 4
Juno 6, 60, 106
JX3P, JX8P, JX10
Alpha Juno 1 & 2
D5, 20, 50, 70
JD 800
JP 8000
and let’s not forget the rack equivalents to many of those synths from days gone by… MKS 7, 30 50, 70, 80 or the D-550, JD990
By the Mid-1990’s Roland had become what it is today… a sound module & virtual analog synth maker..
Sad… Roland should look to what Dave Smith & Tom Oberheim are doing… they are not resting in their laurels, they’re creating NEW laurels to surpass!!!
Roland has been slaying the game with all their releases. way more than any other company. Of course some egos won’t let any room for change, but it’s 2017. Digital technology is wayyy stronger. We should all stop thinking Digital as a 90’s thing. Roland’s ACB tech is legit, They’re focus isn’t ’emulation’ like Arturia or UVI with samplebanks.
synth tech Naysayers are always going to sound the same, but never paint the big picture.
there’s no way to remake the same oldschool units with the exact same components – some parts just DO NOT exist anymore.
How can ya diss Roland for making something like the Boutique line, if they’re the originators in the first place?
“oh well I compared, (not me, youtube) the original synth vs it’s boutique, and they don’t sound the same. so its crap.”
? ehh, first off, if you’re original synth wasn’t unboxed at that moment of comparison, shouldn’t be having that convo. 2nd, analog gear sound different from each other too.
but wtv, either you buy an old juno-106 in mint condition say, for twice or triple the price of a JU-06,just satisfy the “analog ego” , or respect the creators of it all’s intent to introduce new ways to access their glorious classic sounds.
