Glasgow Synth Guild releases Éon Procyon, a new characterful 10HP MS-20-inspired stereo morphing filter for Eurorack.

Superbooth 24 brought us a lot of new synth news, announced or released there. Some developers also showed teasers in the form of prototypes. This was the case with the Glasgow Synth Guild, which has a closed connection to Instruo.

At their booth, Noë, the developer, showcased a prototype of a new intriguing stereo filter. Three months later, the Éon Procyon is ready to be screwed into Eurorack systems.

The new Éon Procyon is a stereo analog filter consisting of two filters based loosely on the 2nd version of the MS-20 filter core. Yes, it is a very characterful analog filter design.

However, the developers have redone the MS-20 circuit for CV morphing of the filter type and a modified CV-able resonance path. This allows the filters to orbit around each other in the stereo field.

Glasgow Synth Guild decided to add only one cutoff and resonance control for both filters to the Éon Procyon. But there is a morph trick. With the dedicated morph knob, you can morph the stereo filter from lowpass to highpass. So you can explore both filter flavors very easily. FM for the filters is also possible, as well as self-oscillation with an offset option.

Then, Glasgow Synth Guild Éon Procyon also offers the option to use the lowpass on the left and the highpass on the right, giving bandpass results with variable bandwidth spread and two resonant peaks. This is great for vocoder-style filter FX.

They also redesigned the frequency control scheme from the ground up to facilitate manipulation of the filter cutoff points in stereo. You can explore this using the spread function, which moves the filter parallel/antiparallel in the stereo field from the left to the middle and right.

Plus, this redesign adds CV control of the key tracking with 1v/oct signals. Further, they added a stereo VCA with soft built-in soft saturation that can be selected pre- or post-filter. This results in an extra crunch for your signals.

On the connection side, Éon Procyon has stereo inputs and outputs (LFO), and CV control for various functions (frequency, resonance, morph, spread…)

First Impression

At first glance, this is a very exciting stereo filter with a beautiful sound. The ability to morph the filter color and in the stereo image is definitely a highlight here. It reminds me a bit of my favorite filter, the Bastl Instruments Ikarie, only this one is more aggressive.

Glasgow Synth Guild Éon Procyon is available now for £280 + tax and starts shipping on August 9th, 2024
