Soejrd Digisophie is a new custom Digitakt MK1 firmware that adds a new 4-mode percussive Synthesizer to the hardware sampler.

Over the past few weeks, many people have experimented with the firmware OS of the Elektron Monomachine and Machinedrum. This has led to various emulators and emulations.

This likely motivated people to tinker with other Elektron gear, too. For example, Soejrd created Digisophie, custom firmware for the Digitakt MK1 that adds a synth voice.

Digisophie is a new custom firmware/modification for the Elektron Digitakt MK1 OS. 1.53 that adds a new percussive Synthesizer.

More precisely, it’s a metallic percussion synth based on the Sophie for Schwung by Mestela (Matt Estela). Soejrd turned Sophie into a fixed-point adaptation called Digisophie and added four different models: FUSE, BOOM, PIPE, and SHARD.

It’s programmable with eight different parameters that can be parameter-locked: tune, model, fold (wavefolder), samp, sweep, metal (fm/ring), FBK (OSC feedback), and color (inharmonic character).

Digisophie uses Digitakt’s regular amp, filter, mixer, and effects paths.

This modifies your instrument’s firmware. Soejrd said that you should back up your projects and sounds, and keep a stock OS file for recovery. More, you need the prebuilt Sophie mod, the elekloader, and your own original Digitakt MK1 OS 1.53 firmware.

The entire installation process is explained on GitHub.

First Impression

The Digitakt MK1 OS has now found its way into the modding community. The new percussive synth sounds great and makes the it even more interesting—and all this after its official discontinuation. Crazy times we live in.

Soejrd Digisophie is available now as an open-source project. It runs on the Elektron Digitakt MK1 OS 1.53 firmware. Use at your own risk.

  1. I would be already happy with a simple kit (all 8 samples + sound settings) copy function between pattern.

    • I found what I could: elektron’s forum post, as well as an article.

It’s not a freak-out, and it’s not cringe at all.

Their response is reasonable, and the article I read even says that elektron “authorized” an unofficial firmware called ‘Machinedrum X’, and “that other projects will be ‘considered separately on a case-by-case basis'”.
