Timbre Space Vuoksi is a new additive Synthesizer plugin with 16 completely independent harmonics, each with independent shaping.
So far, this year has been rich in new additive synth plugins, including Sound Radix Radical1 (+ free version), Melatonin Sine, Unusable Engineering Partials & Discrepancies, and Full Bucket Music’s FB-3. And it goes on.
Timbre Space, developer of the free APOLYVOKS synth for iOS/macOS has released Vuoksi, a new additive synth plugin.
Timbre Space Vuoksi
Vuoksi is a new 64-voice polyphonic additive Synthesizer plugin for macOS. According to Timbre Space, a Windows version of Vuoksi is in development and will be released soon.
It is a Synthesizer based on the principle of additive synthesis. Vuoksi’s core consists of 16 harmonics; instead of tweaking them all at once, the plugin lets users shape each individual harmonic.
For each harmonic, you have manual and automatable gain (LFO), an ADSR envelope, detune, and pan control, each also with an LFO. So, you have three LFOs per harmonic, each with its own rate and free-running or host-tempo-synced options.
The ADSR envelope also has a delay function for staggered harmonic entry. Each parameter row includes a link, a randomizer, and a reset function for quick, easy sound design.
To refine your sounds, it includes a built-in multi-FX processor: chorus, distortion, a filter with its own LFO, a tempo-syncable ping-pong delay, and reverb. Mono and legato modes for the voice architecture with adjustable glide time is also available.
Vuoksi ships with over 80 factory presets in eight categories available in a preset browser. On the top of the UI, you can also find a real-time visualizer. All the 200+ parameters are also available in your DAW for automation.
First Impression
An intruiging new additive Synthesizer that offers a great deal of control. I really like the interface—it’s very simple to use. I hope Timbre Space brings the synth to iOS as well, since he already has an app with APOLYVOKS in the App Store.
Timbre Space Vuoksi is available now for $60. A free 14-day trial is available. It runs as a VST3 and AU plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) for now. A Windows version is coming soon.
