Sinevibes Downgrade and Malfunction are two new KORG SDK plugins designed to craft unique, broken sounds.

Clean, bread-and-butter sounds that fit into any track are plentiful and always welcome. The complete opposite is distorted sounds that immediately stand out, no matter where they’re used.

Sinevibes has released two new KORG plugins, “Downgrade” and “Malfunction”, specifically designed to beautifully destroy sounds.

Sinevibes Downgrade Malfunction

Sinevibes Downgrade & Malfunction

Downgrade & Malfunction are two new unique KORG plugins for the SDK product line. According to Sinevibes, Downgrade and Malfunction run on all the KORG SDK-enabled hardware, except the drumlogue.

Downgrade is a new digital Lo-Fi processor plugin that runs sample-rate and bit-depth reduction algorithms that change the input signal’s resolution in the time and amplitude domains.

This process degrades its sound quality, introducing frequency aliasing and quantization noise associated with vintage digital equipment.  It also includes a gate envelope to eliminate static input noise.

The engine also includes built-in lag filters for noise-free, ultra-smooth parameter adjustment. Downgrade is a sound processor perfectly suited for designing all kinds of dirty and broken-like sounds.

Malfunction

The second new Sinevibes KORG plugin besides Downgrade is called Malfunction. It’s an experimental circuit-bent filter plugin that is based on a low-pass filter model whose internal connections have been intentionally tampered with.

This new algorithm produces a very specific, rough, and screaming distortion. It instantly turns your clean sounds into complex, expressive, and unpredictable textures full of character.

It uses a 2x oversampling engine to remove unwanted harshness from high-frequency aliasing, and includes an input gate envelope to prevent static noise from constantly exciting the filter.

First Impression

Both Downgrade and Malfunction are exciting new Korg plugins that explore the experimental side of sound design. If you’re not a big fan of clean sounds, you might find two great new friends here.

These plugins will tear your sounds to shreds and beautifully destroy them sonically. They’ll make your Korg machines sound like they’ve been fired up for the first time in 30 years after being dusted off in a vintage shop.

Sinevibes Downgrade is available now for $19. It runs as a Korg plugin on the Prologue, Minilogue XD, NTS-1, NTS-1 mkII, NTS-3, and MicroKORG2.
