Oddment Audio ODD-1V is a new plugin that brings the ODD-1 hardware microsonic granular Synthesizer engine to your DAW.
Oddment Audio has recently begun shipping the ODD-1 granular Synthesizer/sampler to customers. It is currently available in the US, with availability in other regions—such as Europe—following later this year.
It is a two-layer 8-voice granular synth featuring a unique variable-speed time path with four playheads. If the hardware is out of your budget, the engine is also available now for your DAW. Oddment Audio has released the ODD-1V plugin in beta.
Oddment Audio ODD-1V
The ODD-1V is the virtual version of the Oddment Audio ODD-1 hardware granular Synthesizer. The plugin isn’t a slimmed-down version; it’s a 1:1 port and offers the same features.
Hardware users can download the plugin for free. They can import their ODD-1 patches into the plugin, or vice versa. So, they can bring their sounds into the DAW. A pretty clever concept that covers both hardware-only and hybrid musicians.
Like the hardware, it’s a dual-layer 8-voice granular Synthesizer and sampler with three distinct operation modes: live, synth, and loops.
In live mode, you can use it as a MIDI-capable live effect on your tracks with four tuneable playheads and eight-voice re-pitching from your keyboard.
Then, the synth mode transforms the ODD-1V into a more traditional granular synth. Load up to eight stereo samples across two independent layers.
You can stack them or trigger them individually. Each has four playheads, each with its own speed, pitch, and time path, so you can mangle them on the fly.
And Loops is a live creative granular looper that lets you easily capture, process, and sync loops all inside the plugin. You can change the speed, direction, pitch, and position afterward.
All three modes also feature a full-fledged modulation engine with ADSR envelopes and LFOs with rate, bias, warp, and depth controls. Plus, there are assignable macros.
The plugin ships with the same ODD-1 sample library with around 2GB of sample content.
Things To Do
The current version of the ODD-1V plugin is in early access, and some features aren’t implemented yet. The developer will add these in the coming weeks and months.
This includes the final plugin user interface, which is now in beta. It’s also not yet possible to capture samples within the plugin, and the live and loops modes are missing. These features are expected to come in November 2026.
Also, the factory isn’t final and is relatively small. Oddment Audio says that more presets will be available for ODD-1V by the end of 2026.
First Impression
Making the ODD-1 engine available to both hardware and software users is a clever move. It’s great that it’s free for hardware users, giving hardware users extra value and more flexibility in how they work with it.
However, I find the $149 beta price and $199 regular price too high, given the number of granular plugins. I would prefer a maximum price of $99. Nevertheless, a neat release.
Oddment Audio ODD-1V is now available at an early-access price of $149 instead of $199. It runs as a standalone application and as a VST3 and AU plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows. For hardware users, the plugin is free.
