NANO Modules FUM is a new, hands-on, no-menu-diving multi-FX module for Eurorack with six distinct stereo effects.

Effects modules for modular synths are excellent tools for sound design, allowing you to shape or refine sounds. When designed with the modular ethos in mind, they typically offer CV control options to animate parameters and dynamics.

However, many modern FX modules suffer from a common drawback: menu-diving combined with small screens. NANO Modules goes a different direction with the new FUM module, a multi-FX processor without menu diving.

NANO Modules FUM

FUM is a new Eurorack multi-FX module that packs six effects into a 12HP module. You wouldn’t guess this module’s scope just by looking at it. No screen, no menu, and no shift button. NANO Modules follows a no-menu-diving concept in the new FUM module.

Instead, each effect has a single bipolar control: the center is off, and each direction opens a different character – a very “analog” way to program it. Turn the knob or move the slider, and something happens.

The FX menu includes six effect algorithms: delay, reverb, pitch, chorus/flanger, texture, and color. In detail, they offer:

  • Delay — ping-pong repeats, clock-syncable, with three time ranges. Feedback runs clean one way, distorted the other.
  • Reverb — a natural Hall one way, rhythmic Gated the other.
  • Pitch — an octave up into shimmer, or an octave down for weight.
  • Chorus / Flanger — chorus thickens, flanger sweeps. Rate follows your delay tempo.
  • Texture — white noise or granular grit, rising and falling with your playing.
  • Color — a DJ-style filter across the whole mix: low-pass one way, high-pass the other.

Customizations With Motion

The delay also features a freeze function that holds the delay buffer and sustains the reverb indefinitely, so you can keep playing over a held moment. Freeze isn’t just a freezer; it’s also the gateway to alternate modes.

Hold Freeze and turn one of three knobs to reach the alternate modes:

  • Color — filter the effects only, instead of the whole mix.
  • Mix — add the effects on top of a constant dry, instead of crossfading.
  • Texture — feed the noise into the effects. With nothing patched in, this turns FUM into a sound source of its own.

Modulation is also onboard. NANO Modules FUM offers an internal LFO/sample & hold for animating the effects you have opened. A single knob sets type, speed, and depth at once, and it only ever moves what you are already using — so it adds life without turning into randomness.

If you need more movement, you can use the 6 CV inputs plus a clock input that syncs the delay to your clock. This also lets you animate all parameters with more sophisticated modulators from your existing system.

On the connectivity side, it has stereo in and out, with left input normalled to the right so a mono source feeds both sides. There is also a handy input and output clip warning. RGB LEDs read out every parameter live

First Impression

An exciting multi-FX module that offers a hands-on, “analog” workflow without getting lost in menus. Plus, at 12HP wide and 25mm deep, it is compact and ideal for skiff systems.

NANO Modules FUM is available now for 235€.
