Monomodule is a new free Elektron Monomachine emulator software that brings the synth and FX engines to your DAW – available now

Good news: Shnoll DSP has officially released the Monomodule plugin that I wrote about last week. More precisely, there are three plugins.  They run the Elektron Monomachine’s original DSP program (ROM) inside an emulated DSP563000. I

It requires the original Elektron Monomachine ROM (OS 1.32B Update).

Unlike the other emulators, it gives you a plugin with all seven synth engines (GND, SID, SWAVE, DPRO, FM+, VO and FX), with every one of their 22 machines. Each track gets the full SYN, AMP, FILT, and EFX pages, plus three LFOs, just like the hardware.

No sequencer or workflow recreation. You get just the engines to play with your favorite sequencer and DAW. The emulator runs so CPU-efficiently compared to the others because:

Monomodule doesn’t approximate the Monomachine. It loads the synth’s own DSP program from the OS file and runs it, instruction for instruction, in an emulated Motorola DSP56300.

The JIT compiles that code to native code, so it runs lightly on Apple Silicon, Intel and AMD.

Besides the solo version, there is also the Monomachine Six, which gives you all six tracks in one instance split across six MIDI channels. You can even route between tracks, with out buses, FX inputs, and more.

As a bonus, you also get a Monomodule FX plugin that gives you the Monomachine effects as a dedicated multi-FX plugin. Put reverb, chorus, dynamix, ringmod, phaser, or flanger on any track, plus track-based filter, EQ, and delay.

According to Shnoll DSP, the plugin doesn’t yet sound 100% like the Monomachine because a few areas still haven’t been perfectly emulated. You can read more about it in the FAQ section.

Nice: the plugin also comes with a librarian function where you can import your Monomachine sysex files. So, you can easily import your own presets and patterns with the hardware.

It’s great that this is now available—especially because it runs very efficiently within the DAW.

Monomodule is available now as a free download. The code is open-source and available on GitHub. It runs as a standalone app and as a VST3 and AU plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel), Linux, and Windows.

Update

Article from September 18, 2026

Earlier this week, I reported on two Elektron Monomachine and MachineDrum emulators by Joe Landers that are still in early development.

The week isn’t over yet, and there is another one—though that one is still available to the public. YouTuber Ticco Ross released a preview of Monomodule, a new emulator of the Elektron Monomachine.

Monomodule

Monomodule is a new free plugin that emulates the Elektron Monomachine drum Synthesizer, using the original hardware ROM file. According to Ticco Ross, the Monomodule is still in private beta but will soon be available for everyone.

The developer of this emulation is taking a different approach than Joe Landers. Instead of the entire hardware, it gives the sound engine of one monophonic voice per track as a plugin.

It features all five iconic sound engines/machines: SID-based, Speak & Spell-inspired voice synth, DX-style FM+, virtual analog SuperWave, and the DigiPro variants. They are visualized within a plugin interface modeled after the Monomachine’s display UI.

The onboard filters, effects, and three multi-wave LFOs are also included. However, there is no sequencer here like the one in Joe Landers’ emulation; instead, you have to use the one from your DAW.

Like the other emulation, it requires the original ROM file from the Elektron Monomachine. The developer says: “The only file needed is the original Elektron_SFX6-60_OS1.32B.syx”.

Monomodule Six

In parallel with developing the MM, he is also working on a second one.

The Monomodule Six is a polyphonic version of the MM emulator with a multichannel configuration for playback. In the demo, he uses five of the six channels.

First Impression

That was quick. Less than a week later, we have another Monomachine emulation. Based on two demos, the emulator appears more mature and uses significantly less CPU. I like the sound of the polyphonic one even better. I’ll let you know when it goes public.

Monomodule and Monomodule Six are coming soon.
