IK Multimedia TONEX Board combines its TONEX amp modeling technology and best-known AmpliTube into a flagship hardware FX.
TONEX is IK Multimedia’s popular AI-driven amp modeling technology. AmpliTube, on the other hand, is a long-runner and is a multi-FX plugin focused on guitar sounds. It also has a non-guitar user base that uses it as an FX plugin on synths and more.
Both engines have already appeared in various hardware products. With the TONEX board, IK Multimedia now presents its first flagship modeler that merges both into a single product.
IK Multimedia TONEX Board
TONEX Board is a new floorboard modeler. According to IK Multimedia, TONEX Board is its most advanced TONEX hardware platform to date, and the centerpiece of the expanding TONEX ecosystem.
The hardware features a 5-in high-resolution color touchscreen and five hands-on controls that make building and editing complete rigs fast and intuitive. Plus, you have two menu operation knobs and four foot switches.
At its core are two engines: the TONEX and AmpliTube. This new hardware marries them into a powerful modeling and multi-FX environment. It’s not a marriage; it’s also a further development of the platform.
TONEX Board takes the core technology behind the original hardware/software further with a dual-signal-chain architecture that can run up to four tone models simultaneously. You get the same tools in hand as in other TONEX hardware, but with more flexibility.
Right out of the box, it includes 2000 premium tone models, spanning sought-after vintage amplifiers and essential classics to modern high-gain rigs, pedals, and more. It combines tone models from various libraries, including TONEX Max.
Nearly 200 of the included captures were contributed by a curated group of leading TONEX Tone Partners, including Amalgam Audio, Jason Sadites, Mad Steex, and more.
Of course, you also have access to the ToneNET application that offers more than 60,000 additional Tone Models and presets from IK, partners, and the community.
Multi-FX Engine
Internally, the new IK Multimedia TONEX board is structured like a classic multi-FX pedal. A highlight of the new flagship model is its signal-routing flexibility. This goes far beyond what previous TONEX products could do.
It features up to 12 tone model and effects slots that can be freely positioned across flexible signal paths. You can create dual-amp stereo rigs, wet/dry setups, two-instrument configurations, sophisticated parallel chains, and more.
The effects collection includes 51 processors derived from AmpliTube, 15 from TONEX, 10 all-new effects, and more to come. From authentic captured amps, cabinets, and pedals to drives, dynamics, modulation, delay, reverb, and creative processing.
That should be enough tools to create exciting FX chains. For guitar players, this package is even better because they can freely combine these FXs with the TONEX amp modeling engine.
Therefore, the TONEX board is a powerful, complete solution for guitarists. Capture gear with the TONEX Modeler, customize it in the hardware or in the ToneNET software, and refine the sound with various effects.

Connectivity
The TONEX Board has an impressive set of connectivity options. On the back, you have two 6.3mm inputs for stereo operation, two external control inputs, 5-pin MIDI IN/OUT, and stereo send and return for a stereo effects loop.
Furthermore, it has two stereo outputs on both XLR and 6.3mm jacks, a headphone socket, a USB-C port, and a power supply input. Yes, it offers stereo input, so you can also use the IK Multimedia TONEX Board as an extensive multi-FX with synthesizers.
This extensive connectivity gives users plenty of flexibility in how they use it. Players can split and merge signal paths, integrate external pedals with the movable stereo effects loop, or divide the loop into two independent mono paths.
It’s a floor modeler that is designed for recording, rehearsing, and live performances. TONEX Board keeps the focus on playing rather than programming, the developers say.
IK Multimedia TONEX Board First Impression
The TONEX Board looks like a very exciting floor modeler with a lot of possibilities. I’ve been wondering for a while now when IK Multimedia would release a flagship product. It took a while, but now it’s here.
There are tons of guitar-related videos out on YouTube. You probably won’t hear much about it in connection with synthesizers, but I hope to get a chance to watch it sometime. I’ve been using AmpliTube software with synths for a long time and really enjoy it.
