Elektron Outbox 8 is now available: a multi-output interface that gives almost every Elektron hardware up to 8 audio or CV/gate outputs.

At Superbooth 2026, Elektron announced the Outbox 8—almost in passing. It is a game-changer for Elektron devices, as this unassuming black box adds multi-output capabilities to many of their devices—all via a simple USB cable. In other words: Overbridge without a computer.

At the TR-909 Day, it’s finally here. Elektron has released the Outbox 8, now available at Thomann and other retailers.

Elektron Outbox 8 Official

Outbox 8 is black and very unobtrusive. However, for the Elektron world, it is a big deal.

The Outbox 8 is a multi-output interface with 48kHz, 32-bit D/A converters that gives your Overbridge-supported Elektron instrument eight individual 1/4-inch outputs (8 mono or 4 stereo).

These impedance-balanced, DC-coupled outputs handle both audio and CV, each configurable to match your connected device’s capabilities.

You can use it with the Digitakt I and II, Digitone I and II, Syntakt, Analog Four I and II, Analog Rytm MKI and MKII, Tonverk, Model: Samples and Model: Cycles, Octatrack MkI/MkII, Monomachine and Machinedrum.

Check the detailed compatibility list with all available features for each hardware. For example, the Octatrack, Monomachine, and Machinedrum don’t support multi-output audio streaming.

With Overbridge-enabled hardware units, you can send individual tracks or submixes to separate destinations instead of keeping everything within the main output path.

Audio, CV and MIDI to CV

The Outbox 8 does more than just multi-outputting audio. Each output can be configured as audio or CV. This lets you bring modular systems and other CV-controllable equipment into your Elektron setup.

The available signal types include grounded, V/oct pitch, Hz/V pitch, linear value, trig, gate, and clock, with a CV output range of +/- 5V. So, you can easily output notes, modulation, trigger, and sync information from one box.

Since each channel can be set individually, you can mix audio and CV. Whether you need audio streams, more CVs, or a varied mix, the Outbox 8 lets you configure them exactly as you wish.

The new Elektron Outbox 8 can also operate as a dedicated USB-MIDI-to-CV interface, giving MIDI-based equipment a practical route into CV-controlled hardware. Connect compatible Elektron gear to play, sequence, modulate, and synchronize modular equipment or other CV-capable instruments.

Alternatively, a USB MIDI controller can provide direct playing and control without requiring an Elektron instrument.

Interface

It’s not limited to your Elektron device! Connect Outbox 8 to a computer, tablet, or phone, and it works as an 8-output channel USB audio interface. For example, use it with your standalone MPC or TE OP-1 Field to give them multiple outputs.

It supports USB class-compliant audio devices, although compatibility can depend on the manufacturer and firmware, so it’s worth checking the latest confirmed devices

On the connection side, you have a USB 2.0 high-speed Type-C data port that supports USB power delivery alongside dual-role data and power. A second USB-C port is also available for power. Next to these are eight output sockets.

Where Can The Outbox 8 Be Used?

Primarily intended as an output expansion for Elektron synths and drum machines. Plug in the cables, and you have 8 individual audio outputs – a game-changer for the Elektron world.

This also makes it easier to mix individual tracks and process them further with pedals and other external gear. You can also take a hybrid approach by splitting the outputs into audio and CV, letting you send out your track while also sequencing or syncing your modular synths.

First Impression

A small black box can make a huge difference. As a current non-Elektronaut, I stand by this: the Outbox 8 is a game changer for Elektron users.

Mainly because it massively upgrades any compatible Elektron device, including the now relatively affordable Digitakt and Digitone Mk1 models found on the second-hand market.

The Elektron Outbox 8 is now available for an MSRP of $349/299€.

Update

Article from May 12, 2026

Many musicians use Elektron devices. The Digitakts and Digitones are particularly popular. Until now, many of these instruments have been limited to stereo output and could access all outputs only digitally via Overbridge. That’s about to change.

At Superbooth 2026, Elektron previewed the Outbox 8, an interface that is essentially Overbridge hardware.

I rarely use the words “game changer” or “game-changing” because they’re overused these days. But this is for Elektron users.

The Elektron Outbox 8 is a new multi-output interface that gives you up to 8 DC-coupled, balanced audio outputs or CV/gate outputs for every Overbridge-compatible Elektron instrument, by simply connecting the devices via USB.

Routing Flexibility

Once connected, the menu shows a new Elektron Outbox 8 menu that lets you assign each output to a specific track, such as the output sending the kick drum.

This new 8-track freedom opens up fantastic routing options. The most obvious is that you have individual outputs for all tracks, allowing you to further shape them with effects pedals, etc., if needed.

Nice, you can use them as mono tracks, or you can pair two outputs as a stereo track, so you can have four stereo outputs. If your track is stereo, it will be summed to mono.

Alternatively, you can assign it to a CV/gate and feed your modular synth with a sequence from your Elektron.

You can also take a hybrid approach, sending out only some tracks for shaping and using another part as a CV/gate to feed external synths. Elektron demonstrated this setup at Superbooth 2026.

If you’ve previously used Overbridge via software, you can now turn off the computer and access all tracks directly.

According to Elektron, the following devices are compatible: Digitakt 1, Digitone 1, Digitakt 2, Digitone, AnalogFour & Rythm Mk2, and Syntakt.

Since this is a class-compliant audio interface, can it also be used with other devices, such as Roland devices that also support audio over USB? That’s what I’m asking myself, but I forgot to ask Elektron at the booth.

Early Impression

In my opinion, this is a game-changer because it adds massive value to many Elektron devices. Especially for the older devices like the Digitakt or Digitone Mk1, which are available for good prices on the second-hand market.

Elektron Outbox 8 will be available in the Summer (around June/July) for between 250 and 300 €.

  1. It’s cool.
I’m still patiently awaiting overbridge for IOS. People who spoke to Elektron said it seems to be “soon”, but nothing seems to have been mentioned formally? That will be “my” gamechanger as I love using AuV3 effects

  2. I’m glad they finally put something forward. It’ll be helpful for most people. Great solutions already exist. I’m running overwitch on a Linux machine with pipewire routing audio to mpc and es-9. Been testing for a few weeks now. I get syntakt and digitone tracks direct to/from mpc or es9 via USB. No DAW needed. Gonna start testing on raspi next week. Hopefully have a portable version that works with any audio interface before this starts shipping. *I’m not affiliated with the overwitch project.

  3. Analogue Heat +fx needs this to be compatible. If they figured it out somehow, this would corner the market. No one else comes close to providing a mastering component. It’s just missing the stems.

    • Analogue Heat+FX is physically analog and stereo only. If you don’t have more channels with overbridge, you won’t have them with this unit

  4. I get the idea of this product for the small Elektron boxes, but why would you use the Outbox 8 over the physical outputs, that are already present in Analog Four Mk2 and Analog Rytm Mk2? And in general, by using Outbox 8, you give up the big advantage the Overbridge Software has in your DAW projects, the total recall functionality.

  5. I have been working with Hacky io between my Digitakt and Euro for years. This will just do what I was doing already but without the hack. Can’t wait.
