Central Processing Unit CPU Quad is a new multi-FX plugin that emulates the Alesis Quadraverb hardware processor from the late 1980s.
Over the weekend, the Central Processing Unit (CPU Records) label released the CPU Micron, an authentic emulation of the Roland MC-202 with its sequencer.
At the same time, Central Processing Unit also released the CPU Quad, an emulation of a well-known FX processor.

The CPU Quad is an authentic emulation of the Alesis Quadraverb multi-FX processor. I cannot confirm or deny whether this was created with AI. There is no answer to that. The website looks like a Claude creation, like many these days.
Reminder: Alesis Quadraverb was a rackmount multi-FX processor from the late 1980s with MIDI control. It offers distinctive-sounding algorithms, including reverb, delay, EQ, resonator, flanger, phaser, ring, modulation, and more.
A special characteristic of the Quadraverb is that its internal hardware runs on its own 41,666.67Hz clock rather than a resampled approximation. This special characteristic gave the audio converters and internal algorithms a distinctive, slightly grainy or metallic character.
Berlin-based musician, YouTuber, and ugly-sweater-wearing ambassador Hainbach described it as an underrated ambient treasure.
The Central Processing Unit CPU Quad is described as a working emulation of the 1989 Alesis QuadraVerb with firmware 1.07. CPU Quad reproduces that same signal chain algorithm-for-algorithm as a modern effects plugin. They also recreated its 41,666.67Hz clock characteristic.
Central Processing Unit also added new features. For example, it comes with tempo sync for the delay times and the LFO speed.
It also includes an onboard preset browser where you can save your effect chains. Plus, it has a randomizer that is capable to create new patches with a click of a button.
First Impression
There wasn’t an Alesis Quadraverb emulation available as a plugin yet. If things continue in this rhythm, we’ll soon have emulations of all vintage rack units.
For CPU Quad, I can’t confirm or deny whether it’s authentic, as I don’t own the hardware. However, it sounds very good as an effects plugin.
Central Processing Unit CPU Quad is available now for £19,99. It runs as a standalone and as a VST3 and AU plugin on macOS, Linux, and Windows.

Cool to see! Esp. given its status in IDM, I’ve used IR convos for this before.
It sure would be nice to have a full recreation of the Alesis QS series, with the recent Andromeda one gaining steam. Out of all the vintage synth lines, that’s one that’s been glaringly missed with no modeled (not sampled) official or unofficial revival to this day. CPURECORDS – any interest in that?
