TAL-Bitcrusher is a major makeover of Togu Audio Line’s popular free bit-crusher plugin for macOS, Linux, and Windows.
Many music producers know the Swiss company Togu Audio Line, or TAL for short, from their free plugins. Their Synthesizer emulation plugins are also popular among musicians looking for authentic vintage sounds for their DAW.
Over the summer, one of Togu Audio Line’s older free plugins got a complete makeover. TAL recently released TAL-Bitcrusher, a major free update to its bit-crusher plugin.
TAL-Bitcrusher
The new version remakes the original plugin, first released more than a decade ago. According to Patrick at Togu Audio Line, the new version includes the original features, plus new additions, improvements, and fixes.
The new look is immediately noticeable on first launch. It now comes with a fully scalable UI that fits the current TAL plugin portfolio. Better: it also now houses a preset browser, so you can save your settings right in the plugin.
On the engine side, it shares the same algorithm as the original version but includes a new companding parameter. It lets you boost quieter audio and add even more noise and sparkle to your sounds.
The rest of the parameters remain the same: bit-depth, sample rate, companding, noise, low- and high-shelf filtering, and dry/wet and volume. There is also a built-in visualizer.
A downer: presets you created in the previous version aren’t compatible with this version.
First Impression
These days, the market is flooded with AI-generated plugins. At least 10 a day. It’s a welcome change to see a reputable developer give one of their beloved classic free FXplugins a makeover, and it’s still free. Thanks TAL!
The new TAL-Bitcrusher is available now as a free download. It runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel), Linux, and Windows.
