Synthmania has released a new Korg user oscillator with 25 analog waveforms for the Korg microKorg 2 Synthesizer.
Last October, Korg released firmware 2.0 for the microKORG 2, introducing the Logue SDK with custom oscillators and effects. Since then, many third-party developers have released numerous new Korg plugins. Sinevibes, for example, has the biggest portfolio.
Synthmania, no, not Paolo from the synth channel of the same name, but a German sound designer, has released a new Korg user oscillator.
Synthmania User Oscillator
The new Synthmania User Oscillator features 25 new oscillator models based on carefully sampled single-cycle waveforms from vintage and modern synthesizers. According to the developer, it includes waveforms from:
- ARP Odyssey
- Moog Matriarch
- Moog Grandmother
- Subsequent 37
- Roland SH-101
- Roland Juno-106
- JP-8000
- Alesis Andromeda
- Arturia MicroFreak
These 25 waveform models are bundled into 25 oscillator types and can be easily loaded into the Korg microKorg 2 via the librarian. Besides selecting the waveforms, there seem to be no other ways to deform them.
First Impression
New oscillators for the microKORG 2 are always welcome. It’s a shame it only offers a selection of waveform models, with no shaping option. So, in my opinion, the 29€ price is a bit high. If each model had additional parameters, it would be more comprehensive.

Um, not for the Microkorg 2. It’s basically Sinevibes, who was commissioned by Korg, and nobody else.
The Microkorg 2 is dying a slow death.

That list … kind of proves Shawn’s point.
This is just an extract and all the NTS-1, prologue, monologue oscillators/FX can be ported easily to the MicroKorg2 in expanded form. I don’t see any sign of a slow death. The MicroKorg 2 might just need a few more boosts.
