NOMN FOAM is a new innovative synth plugin for macOS, Windows, and iOS that uses bubble acoustics and foam synthesis.
By 2026, one would think that we’ve already seen every possible form of synthesis: VA, physical modeling, wavetable, FM, and others. Yes, we already have many in our arsenals, but there are certainly more experimental ones.
However, the number of these is very small. NOMN, a new developer from Japan, has released FOAM, a Synthesizer that offers something completely new.

NOMN FOAM
FOAM is a new physical modeling Synthesizer for macOS, Windows, and iOS. Yes, it’s physical modeling, but it goes in a completely different direction than resonator synths or similar.
According to NOMN, FOAM physically models the micro-acoustics of bubbles and fluid dynamics. Indeed, something pretty unique. This is definitely not your synth for classic basses, leads, or even bells or percussive resonator sounds.
It’s all about bubbles, fluids… and it’s not generated with samples or traditional oscillators. Instead, FOAM runs live physics equations for thousands of individual bubble interactions. This generates complex sonic textures.
The modeling process behind a simple bubbling of water, or even a wave, is far more complex than just a handful of noise.
To achieve as deep and versatile a sound as possible, the NOMN have developed a custom, innovative physical modeling engine for FOAM. It models over 11 distinct physical stages of a bubble’s lifecycle, simulating live events such as:
- Membrane Rupture: The initial snap as gas breaks free from liquid.
- Cavity Resonance: The pitch signature of the air pocket based on its volume and depth.
- Viscous Damping: How quickly small versus large bubbles decay depending on the fluid density.
Bubble Acoustics And Foam
The entire process happens in real-time and is fully customizable. Since it doesn’t use samples but calculations, you can tweak it like a regular Synthesizer.
It consists of five distinct sections: bubble physics, fluid dynamics, foam voicing dynamics, enhancers, and pitch gravity logic. Names that you don’t come across in VA, FM, or similar synths
The bubble physics comes with various flow types: Poisson, Nucleation, Foam Raft, Turbulent, and more. With parameters such as rate, size, ring, cascade, and more, you can craft your bubble characteristics. Realism can be added with the parameters shimmer, natural balance, and jets)
Then, the fluid dynamics section models both the liquid type and the location of the bubbles. This ranges from water, seawater, or more exotic liquids like glycerol, olive oil, or even honey. The location is basically a resonator with various types.
On top of that, you can craft the dynamics of the foam voicing with four settings.

Fine-tuning of your bubbles is available in the enhancer section for extra realism and depth: stereo width or mirror depth, infusion of motion (chaos, drift…), as well as surge, which is a more experimental multi-FX.
The dedicated pitch gravity logic gives you different ways to add a musical context to the bubble generation with scaling options. And with MPE support and per-note MPE mapping, you can play your bubbles and foamy sounds very expressively.
Great news for iOS users. NOMN has released a dedicated iOS version, complete with MPE support, multi-touch support, intelligent CPU monitoring, and multi-channel/surround output.

First Impression
I come across many synthesizers every week. FOAM is certainly one of the most innovative and unique synths of recent months. A very unusual but fun sound generator, or rather bubble synth, unlike anything I’ve seen before.
NOMN FOAM is available now for $69,88. It runs as a VST3 and AU plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows. The iOS version with AUv3 support is available on the Apple App Store for à1,99 instead of $19,99 for a month only.
