ConvertWithMoss 20.1 free multi-sample converter: the new update brings support for the TE OP-XY, Audiomodern Soundbox, FL Studio, and more.
A week ago, Jürgen released a major update for the free, open-source ConvertWithMoss sampler converter.
Now he’s following it up with update 20.1, which adds more formats and brings new improvements for existing ones.
Update 20.1
Yes, there’s another update, version 20.1, and it’s free again, including some great additions.
First, it brings two software additions. First, it adds read + write support for the FL Studio DirectWave format (DWP) programs, including key/velocity ranges, gain, panning, loops, and more.
The second is support for the Audiomodern Soundbox sampler. You can now read and write soundpacks in SBPACK preset format.
So, every conversion to this format becomes one multi-sample with the key/velocity ranges, root notes, sample start/end, loops with cross-fade (also ping-pong), and many other parameters like round-robin layers, and more.
Also, there is news for hardware users. Update 20.1 brings support for the Teenage Engineering OP-XY multi-sample preset format with both reading and writing support of the *.preset folders with their patch.json description file.
It includes the loop with its release behavior and cross-fade, and the velocity sensitivity of the engine. And there is something for vintage sampler users.
ConvertWithMoss 20.1 also adds read + write support for the Casio FZ-1/FZ-10M/FZ-20M format (reading of floppy disk images (IMG, HFE) and bare dump files (FZF, FZV, FZB). This is, however, not verified support, so not tested with the hardware.

ConvertWithMoss 20 free multi-sample converter: big update with support for Roland SP-404mk2, E-mu samplers and more
In mid-July, Jürgen Moßgraber released version 19 of his brilliant free sample converter. The update was extensive, featuring 11 new formats.
Summer seems to be Jürgen’s favorite time of year to work. Now, ConvertWithMoss 20 is already available, and it’s another major update.
Version 20.0
Update 20.0 is now available as a free download from the website.
Heavy users of the tool will notice that Jürgen has made a few changes to the interface. There is a new option in the source menu where you can switch between batch conversion and only picking a single file to convert. Handy for CD image files, etc.
The backend system now also supports LFO modulating pitch (vibrato) and volume (tremolo), with rate, depth, and delay. This now works with DecentSampler, DLS, Renoise, SFZ, and SoundFont 2. Other formats will be added later.
Update 20.0 also significantly expands the list of supported devices.
A highlight is support for the Roland SP-404MK2 format, including reading and writing projects. Each bank of pads becomes a multi-sample. Another Roland addition is the S-550 CD-ROM format that you can now read.
The update is especially welcome for musicians with E-mu devices. The new version adds support for various E-mu samplers with both reading and writing support. This starts with support for the E-mu Emulator III/IIIX/ESI bank format (E3B, E3X, ESI).
Then, you can now import and export files from the E-mu Emulator IV bank format (E4B). Banks can also be read directly from CD-ROM and hard disk images of the EOS samplers (ISO, IMG, HDA), including via the ISO/IMG source format
Writing creates a bank as a ready-to-use CD-ROM image for SCSI CD-ROM emulators (e.g. ZuluSCSI), which is the only way to load banks on units running EOS versions before. And the last is the E-mu Emulator X format (EXB banks with their EBL sample pool).
ConvertWithMoss 20 also brings support for the Arturia Synclavier V format (reading and writing of SYNX preset and bank exports; partials which play a sound file become sample zones).
Alongside this, there are plenty of smaller new features, improvements, and fixes for existing formats that you can find on seven pages in the user manual.

Update from July 18, 2026
Last month, Jürgen Moßgraber released version 18 of the open-source sampler converter ConvertWithMoss. Among other things, it brought support for multi-sampler in Spectrasonics Omnisphere 3.
Jürgen has also been busy during the summer and has already released version 19, which adds 11 more sampler formats and other features.
Version 19
ConvertWithMoss 19 is out now as a free download. This new release adds support for a wide range of new sampler and instrument formats.
This includes the Polyend Tracker, Renoise XRNI, Synstorm Deluge, Elektron Tonverk preset support, and various Roland products (MV-8000/MV-8800, ZEN-Core related formats, and MC-707/MC-101 project import).
Additionally, it adds support for the Synclavier Regen, Fairlight CMI III voice files, and DLS (Downloadable Sounds).
Alongside the new formats, it also comes with various new features and improvements. The user interface has been improved for long lists of formats. There is also a new menu item when right-clicking a log message to open the mentioned folder.
It also brings a new metadata option that detects the category from the start of a sample name. ConvertWithMoss 19 also introduces two new processing options: snap loops to zero-crossing and global correction in semitones/octaves.
The internal model has also been extended with support for loop until release and with filter cutoff keyboard tracking. Plus there are plenty of improvements for many existing supported file formats. You can see all the changes in the manual.
I didn’t expect version 19 to come out so quickly. The application is growing and growing and remains a must-have for every sampler user. Thanks, Jürgen, for your tireless work!

ConvertWithMoss 18 is out now: the new update for the free multi-sample converter brings support for Elektron Tonverk, Omnisphere 3, Roland samplers, and more.
ConvertWithMoss is a must-have tool for multi-sample users. Developed by Jürgen Moßgraber, this open-source tool allows anyone to easily convert multiple samples from one format to another.
Update 18.0 is out now, and it’s a big update with many excellent additions.
ConvertWithMoss 18
Last year, Elektron released the Tonverk multi-sampler. An exciting device, but one that still lacks a convenient sample format. Jürgen Moßgraber, however, managed to crack Elektron’s format mystery and built a converter into the new update.
With the new update 18.0, you can now convert existing multi-samples into emulti patch files compatible with the Elektron Tonverk. According to the developer, the support is still experimental as he does not have a Tonverk unit to test it on.
Another big addition is the support for Spectrasonics Omnisphere 3. Indeed, you can now create multi-sample files that are compatible with Omnisphere 3.
This too was long shrouded in mystery, but Keith Crosley cracked it, and Jürgen has now implemented it. This is a big thing for Omnisphere 3 sound designers.
Fans of vintage Roland sounds can rejoice. ConvertWithMoss 18 can now read a wide range of Roland synths and samplers from the past, including: S-50, S-330, S-550, W-30, S-750, S-770, DJ-70, DJ-70 MkII, and SP-700.
You can now import them, read them, and transform them into another format. Read support only, so you can’t create new ones for these synths or samplers.
The new update also brings loop tuning support for Ableton ADV/ADG, EXS24, Korgmultisample, Kontakt, SFZ, YSFC (partially). Other new additions are:
- processing can now up-sample as well (option: ‘Always re-sample’).
- removed renaming feature
- made settings and processing dialogs non-resizable.

Update from March 25, 2026
If you work extensively with samples or multi-samples, you can’t ignore the free, open-source tool ConvertWithMoss by Jürgen Moßgraber. It’s a brilliant tool that converts sample formats between formats.
At the end of last year, support was added for Maschine, allowing users to convert sample instruments from Kontakt or DecentSampler, for example, into Maschine files.
The developer has been working on version 16 for the past few months, and now version 16.5 has been released. It is particularly interesting for vintage Akai sampler enthusiasts.
Updates 16.0 to 16.5 of ConvertWithMoss bring reading support for various Akai hardware sample formats:
- S5000/S6000 AKP/AKM format
- MPC XPJ and XTY files
- Z4/Z8/MPC4000 AKP/AKM format
- MESA (*.s3p)
- S1000/S3000 series images (*.iso).
A lovely new feature is the ability to change the processing engine. For example, you can apply normalization, make the sample mono, reduce the bit depth, and more.
Alongside this, it brings support for the discoDSP Bliss sampler, UI changes, and other improvements. The full change logs are available in the official manual.

The open-source, free software ConvertWithMoss is a must-have for anyone working with multi-samples in hardware and software. Since every hardware and software system uses its own proprietary format, this standalone software is invaluable.
Now, Maschine users can rejoice! ConvertWithMoss now also allows you to convert multi-samples to the Maschine (2 and 3) mxsnd format. For example, you can turn Decent Sampler patches into Maschine instruments. That’s a great addition. Thanks a lot to Jürgen!

Everyone knows the situation. Great joy when a hardware or software sampler/Synthesizer offers the option of loading your samples. Even better if it can handle multi-samples. Disillusionment with importing these files.
Since the developers have not agreed on a standard common format, you must first convert them to the right one. With many different formats, this can be cumbersome. There is another way. The German developer Jürgen Moßgraber has created a free, open-source tool that makes the creation and conversion of multi-samples easier.
ConvertWithMoss
Jürgen Moßgraber’s free tool is called ConvertWithMoss. It’s not new. It is already in version 7.5. Since there was already an open-source project today, I’ll stick to the topic.
ConvertWithMoss is a free, cross-platform (macOS, Linux, Windows) tool that converts your multi-samples from a specific source to a different destination format.
Particularly amazing, and a highlight of the tool is that it has hardware and software instruments as sources and destinations. Including

- 1010music blackbox, tangerine, bitbox (preset.xml)
- Akai MPC Keygroups (*.xpm)
- Korg KMP/KSF (*.KMP)

This lets you quickly convert multi-samples from one format to the other, such as a SoundFont in an MPC file. And with update 7.5, it now also supports OGG and FLAC format with SFZ files.
Another excellent feature of ConvertWithMoss is the ability to create multi-sample files from plain wav files. So, you can create very easily your own mapped instruments.
First Impression
This is great software that you shouldn’t miss when working with multi-samples. I hope that the EXS24 format will be added soon. It would be super handy because Logic Pro has a built-in autosampler with which you can automatically sample hardware and software instruments.
The results are saved in EXS24 format. If you could transform these EXS24 into another format with ConvertWithMOSS, that would be super great.

Maybe that’s going to make the wavestate fun for me? I’m bot a fan of plowing through those endless samples in that synth/vst. Let’s see how easy it is to make a sample yourself with that software, because the tutorials on Youtube taught me what a hassle that was…
Support for Emulator x3 .exb format would be epic too! Such timeless libraries, also has the auto-sampling feature of EXS24..
Can this convert all the protected Kontakt 3/4/5 libraries I’m sitting on so I could use them with Live’s Sampler?!
no, your sentence already contains the answer to this question: “protected” 😉 Protected means, the developer has locked the sample content. There are libraries with uprotected content. In this case, you can find the samples in a folder

However, it seems grotesque that musicians in 2026 still have to fight with so many sample formats. The PDF of multisamples is long overdue. Native Instruments could have been that, but of course with the greedy licensing many developers where put off.
This is material for so many journalists, but most of them ignore this issue completely. Mr. Synthanatomy, please lead!

now if only i could get all my old Mirage & EPS samples off the damn floppies somehow… grumblegrumblegrumble… there’s no such thing as a usb-c 3 1/2″ floppy drive, let alone one that would work with a silicon mac, even with adapters… i’ve looked into the process and at best it involves finding an ancient windows 98 machine with a floppy drive and ancient super-obscure unobtanium software and a whole lot of hassle. tools like this are great IF your data isn’t imprisoned on obsolete media formats.

At least it will save you the trouble of fighting with an old Win98 machine and getting the software to run.
hmmm, that *is* intriguing. ConvertWithMoss seems to be able to convert the ensoniq file formats so the only issue would be getting the data off the actual floppies. and i do have several older macs (functional or otherwise) i could either cannibalize a floppy drive from, or find an old usb floppy drive from 25 years ago that would still work with one of my older functioning systems (i have 2 that are still running on 10.6.8).
