Behringer Dice 1U2 is a new 2-in/2-out USB audio interface that looks deceptively similar to the Focusrite interfaces.
The Behringer U-Phoria UMC is a popular audio interface series among beginners. They are inexpensive and offer good quality. After a long break in classic audio interfaces, Behringer has news, or rather, on Thomann.
Thomann lists the new Behringer Dice 1U2, aka DICE ONE, a new portable USB-C audio interface, and it looks deceptively similar to another interface of a British brand
Behringer Dice 1U2
The Dice 1U2 is a new USB audio interface that Behringer hasn’t officially announced yet. This information comes from a Thomann listing. I expect the Dice 1U2 to be the first model in a new series called DICE.
Visually, the Dice 1U2 strongly resembles the Focusrite Scarlett series. There are many similarities. The casing appears to be identical, but it’s blue instead of red. The front features are identical except for the Focusrite interface’s Air function.
Behringer also uses classic toggle switches instead of buttons for switching between instrument and line level or direct monitoring. Here is a photo comparing it to the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen. Also, the feature set is also also identical.
The Dice 1U2 features two front panel inputs. On the left, you have a combo jack for connecting microphones (with switchable 48V phantom power), while the second input is a standard 6.3mm jack.
According to the first info, it uses a mic pre-amp developed by Midas. The knobs offer clip indicators, allowing for easy signal monitoring. It supports recordings up to 24-bit/192 kHz. A headphone socket is available on the front panel with direct monitoring.
On the back, you have two 6.3mm jack sockets for the outputs, plus a USB-C port for power and data transfer.
First Impression
At first glance, the Dice 1U2 offers an almost identical feature set to the Focusrite Scarlett Solo Gen 3. However, at 109€, it may be better to buy the Focusrite Solo Gen 3 directly for 89€, which is available without waiting.
Or go the Solo Gen 4 direction for 11€ more, and you get even more features like loopback. Why Behringer opted for a well-known British design instead of creating a unique one remains a mystery.
