athousanddetails 6W6 is a new extension that brings a fully synthesized Roland TR-606 drum machine emulation into Ableton Move Schwung.
Audiokit Pro released Super 606 Drums today, an authentic TR-606 emulation for iOS. You can find a detailed review on the website. A special feature of this release is not only that it is one of the first 606 for iOS, but also that the drum engine is open-source.
Matthew Fecher of AudioKit Pro already published the code on GitHub last Friday. A day later, athousanddetails converted the code into an extension for the Ableton Move Schwung.

The 6W6 by athousanddetails is a new Roland TR-606-style drum machine emulation for Ableton Move Schwung.
As a reminder: Schwung (formerly Move Everything) is an unofficial, community-built open framework and alternative operating layer for the Ableton Move that runs alongside the original firmware. This uses blocks/modules that the community can develop and load onto it.
Right out of the Schwung box, it offers dozens of new instruments, effects, and more. The new 6W6 is another you can load into Ableton Move open framework.
This new extension utilizes the open-source Super 606 Drums DSP code from AudioKit Pro. In this, every voice is 100% synthesized and doesn’t use samples.
6W6 features all eight instruments from the iOS version: bass drum, snare, lo tom, hi tom, closed hat, open hat, cymbal, and hand clap. The latter is modeled after the Behringer RD-6, because the original TR-606 didn’t feature a clap.
Fully Controllable From The Hardware & Browser
Each voice has Tune, Decay, and Level controls. Unlike the app, athousanddetails added to the 6WS a drive with different types (Diode / Hard Clip / Wavefolder / Bitcrush) per voice, and a master drive/distortion across the kit.
The closed hat, for example, also comes with a hat choke option via a switch. You can operate the 6WS using the left 4×4 pads, the knobs (which link to several submenus), and the internal Move sequencer.

As is so often the case in today’s AI world, development progressed faster than the demo release.
First Impression
It was to be expected that the AudioKit Pro 606 code would end up in many projects sooner or later. It surprised Matthew Fecher and me too how quickly it happened. Porting them into the Move Schwung is a great idea.
