Teia Synthesizers DriftLog is a new dual-channel cycling random-voltage generator that brings controlled, loopable randomness to your rack.
Modulation is a key element of every modular Synthesizer. Where many classic synths are often limited, a Eurorack synth can be expanded almost infinitely. You only need the rack space. LFOs and envelopes are the classics.
There are also modulators that are often only seen in the modular world. Teia Synthesizers has released DriftLog, a new, unique dual-channel controlled random generator for Eurorack.
Teia Synthesizers DriftLog
DriftLog is a new 12HP dual-channel cycling random voltage generator for Eurorack. According to Teia Synthesizers, DriftLog is a module that lets you generate, capture, and reshape random voltages in real time.
Both channels generate independent random voltages, A on the left and B on the right. Yes, they are independent but share a set of motion-sharing controls that define how voltages evolve over time.
On the left, you have the slope control that morphs the output from classic stepped random voltages to smooth, continuous glides between successive values.
On the other side, the shape control sculpts the curvature of those glides with selectable modes: linear transitions to Bezier, exponential, and peak-based curves. They also share the clock that sets the rate at which new values are generated.
With the probability control, you can introduce controlled variation in whether those changes occur on a given clock step.
Perform The Randomness
Important is the lock button on each side. Once pressed, each channel retains its current slope, shape, and probability settings independently, giving you two different motion behaviors between both channels.
To do this, you tweak the engine, lock it on one side, then tweak it again and lock it on the other side. Each channel continuously records recent random values. With the loop button on each side, you can replay a selectable portion of this history.
Also here, each channel of the Teia Synthesizers DriftLog can have different loop modes. Dedicated Start and Length give you hands-on control over the loop range, allowing you to tweak it during a live performance.
A shift button provides access to a secondary control layer, with all alternate functions clearly labeled in gold directly on the panel. This includes DC Offset, Swing, Manual Reset, and Gate/Trigger selection.
Holding Shift for three seconds saves the current settings, which are automatically recalled on power-up.
First Impression
Random voltages are exciting signals in eurorack. What’s really appealing here is that you get classic randomness, but also controllable randomness with loopable segments in live, without messing around with deep menus. A very tempting module from Portugal.
