Sigint Sound Skipback AUv3 is a free plugin that brings the convenience of audio and MIDI retrospective recording to iOS and macOS.
In 2018, Ableton introduced Capture MIDI, a feature that lets you go back in time to your MIDI recordings. It revives your already forgotten MIDI jams and makes them available as MIDI clips. Some tools also offer this for audio.
Sigint Sound, a new developer, now brings these features to the iOS world with Skipback AUv3. Good: it’s a free download, and as a bonus, it also runs on macOS.

Skipback AUv3 is a new free audio recording AUv3 plugin for iOS and macOS. It features the popular “retrospective recording” or “skipback” feature from various hardware samplers.
Once opened as an AUv3 FX plugin, Sigint Sound Skipback AUv3 constantly records up to the last 1 minute of audio and up to 5000 MIDI notes that are sent to it. One minute isn’t much, but it’s very helpful for extracting small samples or loops.
It’s also a great tool to improvise music without the stress of remembering to hit the record button. The audio and MIDI data is touch away. You can easily drag and drop the audio and MIDI into your DAW or other iOS/macOS apps.
In the app, you can edit the audio recording duration and the maximum number of MIDI notes in the recorder, if you want it more customized.
First Impression
A great tool, especially on iOS, that can revive audio and MIDI. I can easily imagine it as a loop creation tool.
Sigint Audio Skipback AUv3 is now available for free download on the Apple App Store. It runs as an AUv3 plugin on iOS and macOS (native Apple Silicon).
