Rob Jackson DelayScaper is a new delay plugin for iOS and macOS featuring an experimental, sound-design-focused engine that responds to dynamics.
Classic delay processors are used to delay sounds. This can range from short delays to very long ones. But nowadays, they are much more than just classic echo machines.
Thanks to increasingly sophisticated engines, users can explore colorful journeys through time. In this direction goes also the new AUv3 FX plugin DelayScaper from Rob Jackson.

DelayScaper is a new advanced delay plugin for iOS and macOS. According to Rob Jackson, DelayScaper is an AUv3 audio plugin that transforms delay by making it react directly to the nuances of your performance.
At its core are two identical stereo delays that can run in series, in parallel, or in a custom-blended “cascade” mode. Each delay has an extended time buffer of up to 8 seconds, allowing you to use it as a Frippertronics-style soundscape looper.
The delays can be synced to the host tempo or run in free/unsync mode. Unlike traditional delays, DelayScaper has built-in envelope followers to track the volume and spacing of your incoming audio.
As you play harder, softer, or adjust your tempo, the plugin dynamically shifts its parameters in real time. This creates a very personal experience, as the plugin reacts differently depending on the playing style. Rob describes it like having an intelligent audio partner adjust sknobs for you as you play.
To take the delays further, DelayScaper also includes built-in one-knob pre-processing FX. You can work with an octave granular engine that adds random pitch-shifted granular magic to the delays.
On the other side, it has a slice-based random reverser that turns your delays into reversed chaotic soundscapes.
As with all apps by Rob Jackson, the interface is very simple, making the app very hands-on. It ships with various ready-to-use presets, ranging from simple delays/echos to huge soundscapes.
First Impression
DelayScaper is a lovely-sounding AUv3 delay plugin that beautifully breaks away from the classic world. Yes, it can create bread-and-butter delays, but I’m sure this isn’t why someone would buy it.
For me, Rob Jackson’s new delay app is all about exploring delays in a more experimental way. As the demos showcase, it can quickly transform clean sounds into huge shimmering soundscapes and textures. The app is definitely on my list to test.

no it’s not like an AUv2. Buy it from the App Store and, install it, and it’s instantly available as AUv3 in Logic Pro
