Benny Sparra has created a free browser-based M-VAVE FM-1 patch librarian that simplifies transferring your DX-7 sounds to the mini synth.
The new FM-1 synthesizer from M-VAVE has generated a lot of interest over the past few weeks. A complete review is available in both written and video form. During testing, I noticed that the patch management is a bit odd.
Now there is a solution. Benny Sparra contacted me to say that he has created (vibe-coded) a patch librarian for it.
M-VAVE FM-1 Patch Librarian
As a reminder: the FM-1 is a compact, battery-powered FM Synthesizer with a DX-7 Synthesizer engine, and added sequencer, effects, and more. All this for around $70. Thanks to the same engine, you can import patches from the vintage hardware or Dexed plugin.
During the import procedure, you can choose between four memory slots (A-D) for your DX-7 banks. These don’t have 128 memory slots each, but rather four banks of 32 slots each. So you can import up to four DX-7 banks in the hardware.
The new patch librarian makes things a bit more flexible. In this, you have access to all four banks. So you can import a complete bank or individual sounds and create your own banks.
This feature is not currently available on the FM-1 hardware. Perhaps M-VAVE will offer a firmware update for this in the future.
Also neat is that you can change the position of the patches as well as the name.
A good tool that allows you to manage your sounds faster and more flexibly.

I also built a free, browser-based patch editor for Yamaha’s DX-family synths (reface DX, DX7, TX81Z, and more) — and since the FM-1 speaks DX7 SysEx, it now has beta support too. No install, just open it in Chrome: DXcompanion.uk. Voice editing works well; the FM-1’s onboard effects are still a work in progress since M-VAVE hasn’t published the CC numbers anywhere. Would love any feedback!

Yup. A little disappointing but hard to complain too much given the price. Hopefully a future firmware update can expand on this capability.

Well done this is really useful for me as I havent a clue with FM. I’m using M wave FM1.
I have found some sys files I’ve downloaded and try to load say they are not for active synth. Like I said i’m clueless.
Actually is impossible to read the patch inside the FM1 and export one of those on M-Vawe FM1 is thi correct?
