Flora Creative Solitvde is a new shimmer reverb plugin for iOS and macOS with a built-in modular-like modulation engine.
At the end of May, I reported on the return of Flora Creative, an iOS developer who released AUv3 plugins in the early years. In May, he released Dahlia, a beautiful tape delay that has since been pushed to the forefront with new extras.
His next FX processor is out now, and it’s another unique one. Flora Creative has released Solitvde, a shimmer that is not of the ordinary kind.
Flora Creative Solitvde
Solitvde is a new shimmer reverb plugin for iOS and macOS. Timothy of Flora Creative describes Solitvde as a modulating shimmer reverb.
At its core, it uses an eight-line feedback delay network with classic controls over the size, density, and RT60 decay in seconds. There is also a built-in 2-pole damping to roll off the high ends, plus a freeze function that holds the tail indefinitely.
I find it interesting to assign it to a fader so I can play around with it creatively. On page two, in the Hue section, you can find a multimode filter (low-pass, high-pass, and band-pass) with cutoff and resonance controls.
A low cut is also available to prevent the accumulation of rumble. Next to this is the part where the shimmer magic happens. You can dial it in with a fader and work with various modes, including octaves and fifths.
Adjustable pre-delay, early reflections, and stereo are available in the output section, alongside a dry/wet mix control.
The Modular Twist
A key feature of Flora Creative Solitaire is its modular-like modulation engine. It allows you to modulate almost all reverb parameters. Under each parameter that can be modulated, there is a box where you can assign the modulator.
Two tempo-syncable multi-wave LFOs, a random source, and an envelope follower tracking the input can be routed to almost any control. A dedicated modulation matrix manages all these parameter movements.
Important: the developer says that the engine is designed so that you won’t hear any clicks or pops when tweaking parameters. So, also when modulators tweak the parameters.
By using modulation, Solitvde can create a variety of interesting classic but also unusual shimmer reverb effects. These include some rather bizarre ones I heard during my initial exploration.
First Impression
I like it when developers bring new ideas to effect plugins. For many, Solitvde looks like another shimmer reverb, but that’s wrong. The deeply rooted modulation engine and the effect itself make all the difference here.
This opens up a further spectrum of special shimmer reverbs that go beyond the classic octave-up or octave-down effects. A beautiful, original reverb for iOS and macOS that’s a bit out of the ordinary.
Flora Creative Solitvde Reverb is available now for $6,99/7,99€. It runs as an AUv3 plugin on iOS (iPhone/iPad) and macOS.
