Vibe coding is the buzzword in the plugin world right now. Many new releases combine vibe coding with JUCE. This approach is currently very popular with people who have no coding experience. This also poses risks for users (security, updates…).
A new open-source project takes things a step further and differently. ConjureDSP 3 is a plugin for macOS that serves as your AI plugin builder for your DAW.

This new project is an open-source and free plugin that embeds a fully featured, agentic coding IDE directly inside your DAW. Important note: ConjureDSP 3 is only available for macOS as an AUv3 plugin. Not every DAW supports this format.
According to the developer, it lets musicians and producers build, run, and distribute their own custom audio effects, either by writing real-time DSP code or by vibe-coding it with an AI agent.
It supports AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, or any other AI assistant. Starting the whole process with AI is easy. Open the plugin, connect to your agent with your own account, and describe the effect you want in plain English.
This agent then codes the effect for you in seconds. Alternatively, you can also write audio effects in Python for rapid prototyping, or use Rust for maximum performance. Both run in real-time on the audio thread.
The environment also supports neural amp modeling technology NAM. You can integrate and compile multiple simultaneous NAM tone models into complex signal chains. You can even browse and download tones from tone3000.com without leaving your DAW.
Vibe coding is one thing. Making it usable is something else entirely. ConjureDSP 3 offers a UI where you can define up to 16 automatable parameters with custom names, ranges, units, and linear or logarithmic curves. Custom UIs are also supported.
First Impression
I’m critical of plugins that were developed entirely with vibe coding. This is due to many factors, including AI agents being trained on projects without permission, security issues, quality, and potential updates.
This follows the vibe-coding trend from a different angle. The plugin is traditionally coded (said the dev), but internally it has an AI plugin builder. So, instead of generating new sequences or patches, you generate your own effects here right in your familiar software.
This could be the future for DAWs. Instead of tons of stock plugins, they provide an AI plugin builder that lets users create their own in seconds. Let’s see where this all leads.

I’m sure there is a small percentage of people who want to do this, but the vast majority of musicians have no interest in coding — vibe or otherwise — anything. There are TONS of effects out there that are all fine. I’m a musician, trying to create art, not a guy looking to waste his time programming or vibe-coding or whatever the hell it is to achieve results that are no better than what already exists. I mean, how much more reverb-y can reverb get?
The AI blind hate is no joke… ie “I have no idea what it is or why I would need it. But I know I hate it.”
