Surprising news: Boris FX has acquired the audio company iZotope, and therefore it no longer belongs to Native Instruments.
When Native Instruments’ insolvency was announced in January, not only NI but also other companies faced an uncertain future. This included iZotope, Plugin Alliance, and others.
At Superbooth 2026, inMusic announced their acquisition of Native Instruments. However, it now appears that this acquisition wasn’t for the entire brand portfolio. Today, Boris FX, a developer of audio and video software, surprisingly announced the acquisition of iZotope.

Boris FX is an Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning, family-owned business (Boris Yamnitsky) with over 30 years of experience in professional audio and video tools, especially behind software such as Sapphire, Continuum, and Mocha Pro.
In March 2026, they acquired Vegas Pro, Sound Forge, and Acid Pro from MAGIX Software GmbH. Now the portfolio is once again expanding to include the iZotope plugins such as Ozone, Neutron, or RX.
According to Todd Baker, current and new VP of product at iZotope, this acquisition is a perfect fit because they share DNA: smart, assistive technology that handles the technical hurdles so you can stay focused on the creative work, and a deep commitment to education that helps you master your craft.
Boris Yammnitsky has shared a similar statement. It emphasizes that their commitment to Sapphire, Continuum, Mocha Pro, Silhouette, SynthEyes, and the rest remains unchanged.
They are not pivoting away from VFX or video editing and are expanding their mission into the other half of post-production
What Happens To The iZotope Plugins Now?
Todd Baker says they are now entering a transition phase, and he can assure you that their product licenses and subscriptions remain fully active. Support continues through the same channels, from the same team.
There’s no action you need to take. And the engineers behind RX, Ozone, and the rest of the family are still here, still building. He will be staying on as a VP of products.
Even though there won’t be any changes right now, some will come pretty sure. Currently, all iZotope plugins are branded with Native Instruments. This means that sooner or later, the plugins will be updated and will lose the Native Instruments label.
There is also no information yet on how the transition to Boris FX will work for existing customers. I don’t think the pricing model for iZotope plugins will change much under Boris FX’s leadership.
Boris FX offers both perpetual licenses and subscriptions, meaning they will likely retain both. However, it will be interesting to see how the plugins are maintained in the future.
Under the Native Instruments umbrella, there were many paid updates for iZotope plugins that were half-baked and could have been offered as free updates instead.
I would prefer to see more free updates offered to existing customers rather than smaller new features packed in new versions sold with high update prices.
iZotope has made a surprising move. Nobody saw that coming. I’m curious to see what Boris FX will do with iZotope and its plugins.
Honestly, I forgot NI went insolvent.
I hope this acquisition is good news, but I didn’t know BorisFX even existed until now, so I have no idea if they have a good track record.

I wish they would revive and make BreakTweaker the beast that it could become (with a little TLC).
