Check out these new wavetable tools that convert wavetables for the microwave Synthesizer and the new MPC Oscillator engine.
The last two weeks have seen renewed activity in the wavetable synth scene. Last week, Akai introduced wavetables as a sound source to the MPC/Force with the MPC 3.9 software. Yesterday, Friday, Waldorf released a major v2 update for the microwave 1 plugin.
Both are wavetable synthesizers, but they use different formats. Two new wavetable tools offer relief from format chaos
Wavetable Tools: Waldorf Microwave
Björn from Full Bucket Music has released numerous free Synthesizer plugins in recent years, many of which have been huge download hits.
FBM has developed a free wavetable tool that lets you convert existing wav files to the SysEx format supported by the Microwave Synthesizer hardware firmware 1.2 and the Microwave 1 plugin.
The MicroWaveConverter offers an option to import wave files with single-cycle waveforms. You can have to provide the number of samples per wave cycle in your wav (default 128).
Next, you have to select the user wavetable number (where it is stored on the microwave synth) and the Wave numbers (where your wave cycles should be stored).
In the last step, you click convert, and your wavetable is ready as a SysEx file. There are some limitations listed in the notes on the official page.
MPC Oscillator For MPC/Force
The second of the new wavetable tools allows you to build wavetables compatible with the new MPC oscillator engine. As a reminder, with MPC 3.9, you can now use oscillators as a sound source.
Music Ansolas has built a free converter tool. It runs in your browser and doesn’t require installation. You can analyze any wavetable wav files and convert them into the Akai-compatible format. In this case, in .json format.
The tool doesn’t allow for major changes to the imported wavetable. Its primary function is to convert it to the correct format.
Two useful wavetable tools that you should have if you work with both synthesizers. Both are available for free.

It would be great if anybody just did that conversion work with all the freely available wavetable files and offered it for download. This is a great opportunity for any publication or developer to gain lots of street credibility 😉
