Superbooth 2026: Miltone 4EXP is a new authentic through-hole, hand-made clone/replica of the legendary Oberheim Four Voice.
At Superbooth 2026, the French Synthesizer repair company Miltone (Vintage Synths & Co) announced the 4EXP. It’s an authentic Oberheim Four Voice replica based on the original circuits and parts. This guarantees that the 4EXP can be repaired and used to repair broken vintage ones.
Now, the developers have opened the pre-orders for the first batch of 50 units. The 4EXP is fully customizable: the modules are available in beige or black, and the chassis can be ordered in either Aluminum or Tolex.
Each instrument is built to order, individually numbered, and delivered with a printed User & Service Manual and a selection of accompanying items.
The 4EXP Aluminum costs 9990€ (ex VAT) + shipping, and the Tolex Edition costs 11990€ (ex VAT) + shipping. A fully refundable €1,500 reservation deposit secures your place in the production queue. First deliveries are expected from late 2026 onwards

At SynthFest France 2026, visitors were able to explore the NRSynth Quatuor, a clone of the Oberheim Four Voice – a beautiful, handmade synthesizer. Well, this is not the only Four Voice clone; there is one in Berlin as well.
Miltone—a Paris-based company that has been repairing vintage synths for many years under the brand Vintage Synths & Co—is presenting the 4EXP at Superbooth 2026.
Miltone 4EXP
The 4EXP is an authentic clone/replica of the Oberheim Four Voice Synthesizer and is built around discrete circuitry. Unlike NRSynth’s version, the developers have opted to forgo a keyboard, offering the unit instead in an expander format.
Like the original, the 4EXP consists of four independent Oberheim SEM modules, plus a control section on the left. Per voice, you get:
- two discrete VCOs with hard sync
- two-pole state variable filter
- triangle LFO and two ADS envelopes
- external input, volume and pan controls, and CV/Gate & MIDI control
It features no arpeggiator, sequencer, or other such extras. Currently, the synth can only be played via CV/Gate. Work is currently underway to add MIDI so you can play it with any MIDI controller.
Authenticity?!
For many, the NRSynth Quatuor already feels remarkably authentic. However, the developers at Miltone went through numerous extra steps to ensure a perfect match with the original.
It all starts with the circuitry. Each SEM voice has been replicated exactly, component for component, using through-hole technology—just like the original.
They even went so far as to acquire vintage components to ensure the circuit matched the original precisely; where that wasn’t possible, they either tracked down suitable replacements or substituted them with modern equivalents.
The interface is also nearly identical to the original, except that it bears the name “Miltone” instead of “Oberheim.”
An interface features knobs and switches. The original Oberheim possesses distinctive knobs that offer a unique tactile feel—a feature the developers have faithfully recreated as well.
To achieve this, they reverse-engineered the potentiometers from the original Four Voice on a one-to-one basis, including the ball-bearing mechanism and other details. According to Miltone, they spent many months working on this aspect to ensure a perfect match.
Why take these extra steps when there might be other ways to do it? Just look at Behringer. The goal is for the Milestone 4EXP to last a lifetime and be easily serviceable in the event of technical issues.
At the same time, this approach provides all the components needed to repair an original Four Voice. On top, you can use it to expand your existing Oberheim Four Voice to an Eight Voice. According to the developers, each unit is built and calibrated by hand.
First Impression
Following the OB-X clone from Shear Electronics, here is another very costly clone/replica of a classic instrument. This synth will almost certainly be beyond the reach of 99.5% of people.
However, there are those who have either been searching for a Four Voice for a very long time or who wish to expand their existing Four Voice to an Eight Voice. This offers them that opportunity. And I suppose you can’t get any more authentic—short of buying the original.
Miltone 4EXP is now available for pre-order at 11995€. Each unit ships with a service manual containing a part list, components, schematics, calibration, and more.

Not sure who this is for. Those who can spend 12000 on a clone, would go for the real thing instead, especialy when taking resale value in account.
A restored FVS would cost approx 25k usd if not more, and regarding resale value, well, time will tell if this doesn’t go up like some boutique stuff..
With friendly respect to Miltone, anyone considering seriously something like this, would do very well to check out the new STG / muSonics Lyle 4-voice Vanilla, which takes Tom O’s original 4V vision several levels beyond, and for less $ than what’s pictured here…check it out, analog kids!
Actually, they are vastly different things which clearly do not aim for the same people, and regarding the price, i think you are wrong ( 16k usd total, assumiong the preorder for 8k says it’s a 50% deposit)
if i put 2 behringer 2xm together would it be 11500€ difference in sound? both are clones.
Behringer doesn’t have the control panel and you can’t use the Behringer to repair an original vintage one 😉
Price super Hi for a clone. “Behringer help!” 😅 but must say it looks nice and clean but somewhat big for a desktop synth. At least that was my impression when looking at the foto of this article.
