Faded Instruments Harmonal Binaurics is a binaural drone Synthesizer for iPadOS and macOS, combining binaural beats with Isochronic tones and a custom tuning system.
There are countless virtual instruments and effects plugins. Many follow very classic concepts: a synth, an electric piano, or a chorus. But there are also developers who create more exotic, experimental plugins, like Faded Instruments.
Good news, the company is now on iPadOS. Faded Instruments has released Harmonal Binaurics, a unique binaural drone Synthesizer for iPadOS and macOS.
Faded Instruments Harmonal Binaurics
Harmonal Binaurics is a port of the original desktop version for macOS and Windows. Faded Instruments, however, emphasizes that this is a touch redesign for iPadOS and that it’s Harmonal Binaurics version 2.
Like the desktop version, it’s a unique binaural (psychoacoustic) drone Synthesizer that combines binaural beats with Isochronic tones and custom tuning systems. They said that it’s designed to hijack your brainwaves and bend your unconscious mind.
At the core of the Harmonal Binaurics are seven binaural harmonic drone generators capable of producing dense drones, pulsing rhythmic interference patterns, shifting harmonic relationships, and unstable psychoacoustic textures.
Each drone generator gives you full control over the tuning, either manually or using a custom microtonal system with scales. This gives you deep ways to create non-standard harmonic structure with the drone generators.
Alongside the tuning controls, you can also shape the sound character of each generator.
Expanded Drone Shaping
Version 2 comes with expanded wave-shaping and wave-morphing capabilities, allowing you to morph seamlessly from a pure sine wave into triangle, sawtooth, and square waveforms.
You can also take it further into more aggressive distortions, unstable hybrid waveforms, and continuously evolving textures. Organic life and motion can be infused using the slew-based modulation and movement controls.
Harmonal Binaurics offers three distinct playing modes: drone mode, touch mode, and keyboard mode in MIDI.
Thanks to the AUv3 plugin support, you can use Faded Instruments Harmonal Binaurics in multiple instances to create a massive drone orchestra.
The output goes out in a stereo mix. If you want more advanced setups, it also has multi-channel output support that gives an output for each generator, so seven in total.
First Impression
Welcome, Faded Instruments on iOS/iPadOS. The redesign of Harmonic Binaurics for iPadOS looks exciting, and the new features nicely expand the original concept. With the sliders, it looks very performance-ready.
I hope we can welcome even more FI plugins to iPadOS or iOS in the future. The only thing I find a bit high is the $12.99 price compared to the desktop plugins.
Faded Instruments Harmonal Binaurics is available now for $12,99. It runs as a standalone and AUv3 plugin on iPadOS and macOS (native Apple Silicon).
