Aqeel Aadam Coastline is a new plugin (macOS, Windows, and iOS) that can sustain and stretch audio endlessly in colorways, using distinct synthesis engines.
I first became truly aware of Aqeel Aadam’s plugins/iOS apps with the Outgrowth sampler, which is now a staple in my live setup. It always inspires, and with the latest May update, it also got new creative features, like a filter bank.
Aqeel Aadam has just released a new plugin and iOS app called Coastline that promises just as much ambient and experimental fun.
Aqeel Aadam Coastline
Coastline is a new, advanced audio sustainer plugin with many sound design features for hours of sonic experimentation. Like the previous Aqueel Aadam releases, Coastline is available as a desktop application (Mac and Windows) and an iOS app.
The plugin is an FX processor and is applied to an existing sound in your signal chain. In this, it enters a dual-engine system with two distinct sustaining algorithms: tide and glade to resynthesize audio and stretch it indefinitely.
Tide is an additive Synthesizer engine that resynthesizes your sounds on the fly and lets you control which input frequencies are mapped to oscillators. You can adjust them to highlight the harmonic and inharmonic characteristics. A waveshaper adds additional frequency if needed.
Galde, on the other hand, applies a granular process to your audio. It’s described as a granular Synthesizer that stretches sound forever with no clicks and transients. A mixing option lets you create a unique hybrid combination between the original and stretched versions.
Intermodulating Mixer & Shaping
The mixer is another core element of the Coastline processor. It’s not just a mixer but a sound processor in its own right. Using amplitude modulation, you can route any channel to intermodulate with another channel or with itself.
This includes not only the tide and glade but also the input, the side-chain, and the reverb. You can dive deeper by importing audio samples and using them to intermodulate other channels. You can adjust the center frequency and width with the width control.
A modulation matrix with multiple multi-wave LFOs, sequencers, smooth random sources, and more lets you modulate any control in Aqeel Aadam Coastline. Modulate some parameters, and you can infuse animation in your maybe static soundscapes and textures.
Coastline also features a newly developed effects engine, featuring a filter and a reverb. Each engine and effect inside is designed to be immediately usable and configurable, or pushed into the territory of distortion and creative sound design.
They are pretty original. For example, the reverb has built-in movement and unusual controls like Lo-Fi, chorus, and chaos. This is not your classic reverb, but one that makes your sounds fluffier while enriching them with additional frequencies.
First Impression
Outgrowth captivated me from the very first minute. The new Coastline appeals to me just as much, as the user interface is very inviting. Furthermore, the engine is very original and different. What I’ve heard so far makes me want to dive deeper into it.
If you love experimenting with sound and creating soundscapes, this plugin might be worth a look.
Aqeel Aadam Coastline is available now at an introductory price of $45, down from $60, until July 8th, 2026. It runs as a VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
The iOS version (iPhone and iPad) with AUv3 plugin support is out now for $11,99 on the Apple App Store.
