4pockets RetroLab is a new mighty AUv3 multi-FX plugin for macOS and iOS with 13 vintage/retro-inspired FX modules
Good news: RetroLab is back in the App Store. The update adds the CloudSeed module, a dense, modulated algorithmic reverb based on its own CloudSeed engine. It sounds super rich and lovely.
Bad news: the issue with AUM has not yet been solved. 4pockets said:
We have had reports of a handful of people struggling to load this plugin in AUM, but works fine in other DAWs I have not personally been able to reproduce this but we think it may be due to certain device configurations running on iOS26.5. We are looking into this issue.
The app is also now on sale for $7,99/8,99€ instead of $16,99/17,99€ for a limited time. It’s out now on the Apple App Store.

Multi-effect plugins usually offer a huge number of algorithms that can be combined. Whether they match perfectly always depends on how the user uses and combines them.
The user has to figure out how they work together. There are also multi-FX plugins that focus on specific areas, like Paul’s new app. 4pockets has released RetroLab, a new AUv3 multi-FX plugin with a strong focus on vintage/retro sound design.
4pockets RetroLab
RetroLab is a new multi-FX plugin for iOS and macOS that blends the character of classic hardware with the flexibility of modern sound design. According to 4pockets, RetroLab takes heavy inspiration from gramophones, tape decks, and worn analog circuits
It’s designed to add warmth, instability, and imperfections of vintage recordings to your tracks. So, to get rid of the polished, perfect quality of modern sounds.
Like in other multi-FX plugins, RetroLab allows you to modify the module order so you can create your own custom signal paths.
Thanks to low CPU optimization, all 13 effects can run simultaneously. Yes, there are 13 different vintage-flavored effects available:
- noise: analog-style noise from subtle hiss and hum to heavy vinyl crackle
- glitch: rhythmic interruptions, stutters, and digital instability
- wow & flutter: movement, and organic modulation based on pitch instability of aging tape machines
- phaser: a classic phaser modulation with sweeping, phase-shifted motion
- distort: overdrive or distortion
- tape transport: simulates the mechanical behavior of tape systems–speed changes, slow-downs, dropouts, and transport-style artifacts
- crusher: degrades your signal for lo-fi digital character
- filter morph: a characterful vintage-inspired filter
- air delay: a spatial delay effect that adds depth and atmosphere
- atmosphere: generates ambient reverberating textures and tonal layers
- gate: shapes dynamics and rhythm by cutting or sculpting the signal
- resonator: transforms incoming audio into rich, harmonically tuned feedback
- hum removal: removes low-end electrical mains hum, transformer buzz, grounding noise, and low-frequency interference
Final Shaping & Modulation
A single master control blends between dry and fully processed signal, allowing you to tame or unleash the entire effect chain instantly.
In the global section, you can refine your sounds with built-in high-pass and low-pass filters, tone control, and stereo width adjustment.
To add movement, 4pockets added three independent LFOs to the app with adjustable speed, shape, and depth. You can assign them to most of the app’s parameters. From subtle organic changes to absolute chaos, the three LFOs give you a lot of sound design flexibility.
Don’t forget that time-based effects can be easily synced to your host tempo for tight, musical results. RetroLab’s interface is very simple, making it suitable for sonic exploration.
First Impression
A beautiful set of vintage-inspired effects. Those who like vintage sounds or vintagize existing sounds might enjoy this multi-FX. A plus point for macOS AUv3 support.
Since I’ve been using 4pockets apps for a long time, I’m sure RetroLab is a high-quality app as well.
4pockets RetroLab is available now for 17,99€ on the Apple App Store. It runs as a standalone and AUv3 plugin on iOS (iPhone/iPad) and macOS (native Apple Silicon).

The UI looks very nice graphically. Great to see Paul putting in the hard work to improve there.
Unfotunately not available in Germany🙁
it’s normally available but the dev has issues with bugs so he removed it but will come back
👌👍🙌
Retrolab crashes on me. If 4 pockets can’t get it fixed, then it a waste of money and time! IOS bugs should be fixed BEFORE its release!
if its in AUM, it’s a known issue he is working on with the developer of AUM
