Update from April 15, 2026
The Zenology GX Synthesizer is coming to iPad. This was a big surprise from Roland at NAMM 2026. Now there’s news about the iOS version.
According to Roland, the app is nearing release. They also shared more about the content and licensing model.
There will be a Free Experience period that runs until later in 2026, during which you can use Zenology GX for iPad free of charge, with over 4,000 sounds to explore on day one. In this period, they will also release an AUv3 plugin version of the app.

It’s good to see that the developers are making progress, and it will be available soon. Stay tuned for future updates.

Article from April 15, 2026
Last November, Roland released the Zenology GX, the next generation of its Zenology Pro Synthesizer. This is the software version of the ZEN-Core synth engine found in many Roland hardware products.
Roland has a surprise in store for NAMM 2026. With the Roland Zenology GX for iPad, Roland is bringing its Zen-Core engine to mobile devices for the first time as a Synthesizer.
Roland Zenology GX for iPad
Zenology GX is Roland’s first flagship Synthesizer instrument designed for Apple’s tablet platform.
Like the desktop version, Roland Zenology GX for iPad features four partials/layers powered by the ZEN-Core synth engine. Each partial is an independent synth voice comprising an oscillator, filter, three envelopes (pitch, amp, mod), and two LFOs.
The oscillator section offers nine virtual analog waveforms, Superaw, noise, PCM (7,000 PCM waveforms), and PCM sync. From here, it goes into a mixer and into a multi-mode filter with 10 filter types: Jupiter, Moog, Prophet-5, and other models.
Each partial also offers an independent modulation engine with three envelopes and two LFOs. The latter features eleven LFO shapes, including synced step LFOs with 37 curves per step. There is also a modulation matrix, giving you access to every partial’s modulation.
A global multi-FX processor with over 90 Roland effects allows you to refine your sounds. It includes the JUNO-106 and CE-1 choruses, SSD-320 Dimension D, reverbs, DJ-FX looper, and more.
Thanks to the powerful, inspiring built-in arpeggiator and chord sequencer, as in the desktop version, you can easily create rhythmic and melodic sounds.
Multi-Layer Sounds
The highlight of the app is the ability to create multi-layered sounds with up to 4 partials. As a Zenology GX for iPad user and Roland Cloud subscriber, you have access to a huge, ever-growing catalog of ready-made sounds.
However, Zenology GX for iPad does not include the Roland GALAXIAS environment as plugins, like the Juno-106, Jupiter-8, etc are not available for iOS. Therefore, you can only load sounds based on the ZEN-Core engine.
First Impression
This is great news for iPad musicians. I’m pleased to see a major player delving even deeper into the iPad market. We’ll have to see how Roland has ported the app and how smoothly it runs.
The subscription background is a bit of a drawback, but there will be a Lifetime Key purchase option.
The official press release doesn’t mention the price. I’m curious how much it will be, since Zenology Pro for macOS/Windows is 255€; I hope it won’t be that much.
Roland Zenology GX for iPad will debut as a free download with all features unlocked for a limited time. After this period, it will be available through free and premium Roland Cloud memberships or via a Lifetime Key purchase. Release is planned for early 2026.

(Read and updated: the bottom part is based on the NAMM news and there wasn’t a link available at that time for the iPad. I usually link to the companies website. Cheers)
it is very nice that you keep us updated about how Roland approaches the mobile music scene, thank you very much for your efforts!

Saw the headline, and before any hopes or excitement for up, thought “probably a subscription.” Looked. Scrolled… yep. moved on.
I blame adobe for getting people to choke down this terrible model and get used to it. Fine for companies and constant year-round users. For enthusiasts and learners who engage when we can, but not all the time, it’s untenable unless we’ve got unlimited money to burn.
Thank god for indies and amateurs who out stuff out for free or affordable, and companies that still let you buy a thing and own it.
No to this, Roland.
there will be a one-time purchase option but they didn’t announce yet the price of it.
I couldn’t believe that it is free, but it is!
They gonna probably charge us for sounds or expansions which is fine, but when I try to log in and fill in my email and password of my existing roland account it failed. I have that account for years and I use it with my Roland Cloud. The website explicit explains that it is fine to sign up with your Roland Cloud account but the app on my iPad doesn’t accept…Roland and digital administration: Two worlds collide.
PS: I’m pretty sure that zenology gx on iPad is brilliant after all I read and saw…
Have Roland released any new Synths in the past 3 years? LoL
it says it is free temporary…
finally an touchscreen editor for Zen Core hardware.

Make sure you quit the application and restart after the first time.
There’s a weird bug that causes the output to be very low. It’s fixed after a restart
So far I’m not sure if I like the app. Lots of things are just too small for iPad use.
Most companies simply don’t understand hou a GUI should look like on a tablet and Roland is one of them.
Also you get everything for free now but be careful! Everything will be behind a massive pay wall in a couple of months or so. And if you’re using some of those patches in tracks be prepared to be royally screwed.
