Rob Jackson ANALOGyKIT is a new 8-channel drum Synthesizer plugin for iOS and macOS, powered by a virtual analog synth engine.
There are numerous drum synthesizers available on iOS. Each is unique in its own way, but they often rely on the same concepts of drum synthesis. To stand out, every app highlights more features to make even more drum and percussive sounds possible.
Rob Jackson takes a different approach with his apps, including his new ANALOGyKIT drum Synthesizer. Fewer features, but very inviting to use.
Rob Jackson ANALOGyKIT
ANALOGyKIT is a new 8-channel drum Synthesizer for iOS and macOS. According to Rob Jackson, ANALOGyKIT doesn’t use samples but a virtual analog engine based on the engines in early analog drum machines from the late 1970’s and early 80’s.
Important note: the engine is the same as the one you can find in the ANALOGyDR, but times eight, plus dedicated per-voice effects and a master/mixer section.
Each channel/voice is independent and consists of two tunable oscillators, two noise sources (white/pink), and a multimode filter with a built-in envelope.
The oscillators offer controls over the mix, pitch, and decay envelope, while the noise generators only have settings for the mix and decay envelope. Not many, but enough options to shape your own drum and percussive sounds.
On the third page of the UI, each voice has its own multi-FX processor. You can work with a fully adjustable tempo-syncable delay, reverb, and gate effect. Plus, you have choke, drive, and Lo-Fi parameters for additional character.$
The master output section, on page four, includes an 8-channel stereo mixer and simple one-knob controls for compression, limiting, and clipping. Each channel has its own volume and pan parameters.
ANALOGyKIT comes with factory presets for kits and individual drums. You can also store your own crafted sounds via the OS file system browser. New kits can also be generated automatically by randomly combining sounds from existing factory drum and kit presets.
First Impression
A lovely, simple drum Synthesizer app that allows you to quickly craft good-sounding drum sounds from scratch. I appreciate that Rob Jackson continues to keep his apps straightforward to use, making them very inviting for both beginners and pros.
Rob Jackson ANALOGyKIT is available now for $4,99/5,99€ on the Apple App Store. It runs as an AUv3 plugin on iOS (iPad/iPhone) and macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel).
