Lambda Synthetics, creators of the PolyPulse groovebox, have released the Wavetable Designer, a tool for making custom wavetables.

In recent years, the market has been flooded with hardware and software wavetable synthesizers. These synthesizers use wavetables as oscillators, and in most cases, you can upload new ones to the engines. Yes, in many, but there are synths where it’s not possible.

Some software synthesizers offer built-in wavetable editors within the plugin itself. There are also standalone, inexpensive tools that allow this. A new tool of this kind is now available from Lambda Synthetics called Wavetable Designer.

Wavetable Designer is a new wavetable creation tool that runs in your browser. Lambda Synthetics is a Dutch company best known for the PolyPulse groovebox, which features wavetable synthesis.

Now, Lambda Synthetics offers its own Wavetable Designer, which creates wavetables for PolyPulse as well as other hardware and software synths.

The web application consists of three areas: a generator, an audio preview with a real-time visualizer, and a file export function. The Generator section allows you to generate a new wavetable from scratch. This starts with basic functions such as table size, cycles, normalization, and more.

From there, you can dive deeper and add other sources and effects, making the waveforms and wavetables more complex. You can work with sinewave FM, resonant sine, or effects like hard/soft clip, bitcrush, ring mod, and more.

I like how easy it is to progress. The app’s structure is very intuitive. Furthermore, you get an audio preview with real-time visualization of the changes you make to the wavetable.

Additionally, you can manually or with an LFO sweep through the wavetable at any time. A nice extra feature that lets you see its character directly.

First Impression

The Wavetable Designer is a very useful web tool. My only criticism is that it’s limited to the web and there’s no downloadable standalone version.

Lambda Synthetics Wavetable Designer is available now as a web application. You can try it for free and buy a $15 license to unlock all features, including downloading wavetables.

  1. This seems like an interesting tool, but honestly, Carvetoy is more feature packed than this tool, plus it’s free compared to this.
