Superbooth 2026: Kiviak Instruments WOFI LE is a budget-friendly, yet not stripped-down, version of the retro-inspired keyboard sampler.

When Kiviak Instruments released the WOFI in October 2024, not everyone was satisfied with the price-to-feature ratio. Many criticized the relatively high price, the minimal memory, and the lack of features.

The French company is responding to this criticism today with two measures. Firstly, there is a significant price reduction for the original WOFI, making it more affordable. Secondly, Kiviak Instruments has announced the WOFI LE for Superbooth 2026.

Smaller and more affordable, but with just a few feature tweaks. The WOFI LE brings the WOFI keyboard sampler experience into a sleeker, more portable, and budget-friendly package.

You can choose between two colors: black or Arturia white. The only elements reminiscent of the original WoFi are the large blue knob, the white knobs, and the display with the touch section. Everything else has been redesigned.

Instead of a two-octave keyboard, Kiviak Instruments takes the pads route with the WOFI LE. It features 36 playable rubber keypads and plenty of new shortcut menu buttons, making menu navigation more straightforward and immediate.

WOFI LE vs WOFI Keyboard

WOFI LE is not a stripped-down version of its bigger sibling, but it has some other changes, alongside the new keypads and form factor. The missing list includes the built-in battery and the speaker.

In the WOFI LE, the criticized memory cartridge was also replaced by a microSD card slot, allowing the user to import more samples.

Good: the core engine was adopted one-to-one from the keyboard and offers the same sampler concept inspired by the Casio SK-1. Record, chop, and manipulate sounds on the fly, even while a sequence is already playing.

Cue Points

It has 10 voices and includes the same sampler functionality, including the classic sampler emulation for retro colorization, as well as the upcoming cue points. You can tweak them with four parameters, ranging from clean tones to gritty textures.

The same 12dB/oct and 24dB/oct filters, envelopes, and LFO modulation are also part of it, giving you real-time sound design. Did I forget anything? Ah, yes, the texturer granular FX processor, which will receive an echo mode in the upcoming firmware update 1.5.

Although polarizing, the cloud integration is also an integral part of the new WOFI LE, which has a built-in Wi-Fi module. It allows you to sync your samples over Wi-Fi and share them via myWoFi, the cloud companion app made for it.

On the connection side, you get an ON/OFF button, a USB-C port, a full MIDI interface (In, Thru, and Out), a stereo line input, a stereo line output, and a headphone socket.

First Impression

A second attempt at the WoFi. A significantly lower price for the keyboard and a budget-friendly version for those who don’t need the keys and other extras. If future firmware releases offer useful new features, the second attempt could be successful.

That depends on how the sampler is maintained in the coming months. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait another year for the next update. The WOFI LE looks interesting. I’m particularly interested to see how the workflow has improved with the additional shortcuts.

Kiviak Instruments WOFI LE will be available at the end of 2026/early 2027 for $349/299€. The original WOFI received a permanent price cut and is now available for $ 579/499€ on the official website.

  1. Oh wow. That’s a nice design actually.
And the price cut on the original WOfi will probably allow to boost sales indeed.
I expect they will do well with it. It’s a great little device.

Of course, there is nowadays tons of competition in the sampling and granular world, with new entrants and models/brands every day, but this is a great form factor I must say and the price is appealing

  2. I think this is a great move! I love my Wofi, simple to use, simple to sample, packs more features than those silly sample beat boxes. 1.5 firmware brings new features. At 299 Euro’s I’d say this is a great investment.

  3. Another SB26 surprise just a day away – this looks good (better I think) the SD card is a wide choice and it’s the right kind of price. I think this could be a seller.

  4. I was interested in the Wofi prior to finding out the release price, this is much more affordable and I don’t have any need for a battery/speaker/keybed.
