Elektron Outbox 8: a multi-output interface and game-changing for Elektron users

Superbooth 2026: Elektron Outbox 8 is a multi-output interface that gives almost every Elektron hardware up to 8 audio or CV/gate outputs.

Many musicians use Elektron devices. The Digitakts and Digitones are particularly popular. Until now, many of these instruments have been limited to stereo output and could access all outputs only digitally via Overbridge. That’s about to change.

At Superbooth 2026, Elektron previewed the Outbox 8, an interface that is essentially an Overbridge hardware.

I rarely use the words “game changer” or “game changing” because they’re overused these days. But this is for Elektron users.

The Elektron Outbox 8 is a new multi-output interface that gives you up to 8 DC-coupled, balanced audio outputs or CV/gate outputs for every Overbridge-compatible Elektron instrument, by simply connecting the devices via USB.

Routing Flexibility

Once connected, the menu shows a new Elektron Outbox 8 menu that lets you assign each output to a specific track, such as the output sending the kick drum.

This new 8-track freedom opens up fantastic routing options. The most obvious is that you have individual outputs for all tracks, allowing you to further shape them with effects pedals, etc., if needed.

Nice, you can use them as mono tracks, or you can pair two outputs as a stereo track, so you can have four stereo outputs. If your track is stereo, it will be summed to mono.

Alternatively, you can assign it to a CV/gate and feed your modular synth with a sequence from your Elektron.

You can also take a hybrid approach, sending out only some tracks for shaping and using another part as a CV/gate to feed external synths. Such a setup was demonstrated at Superbooth 2026.

For those who have previously used Overbridge via the software, it is now possible to turn off the computer and access all tracks directly.

According to Elektron, the following devices are compatible: Digitakt 1, Digitone 1, Digitakt 2, Digitone, AnalogFour & Rythm Mk2, and Syntakt.

Since this is a class-compliant audio interface, can it also be used with other devices, such as Roland devices that also support audio over USB? That I’m asking myself, but forgot to ask Elektron at the booth.

First Impression

In my opinion, this is a game-changer because it adds massive value to many Elektron devices. Especially for the older devices like the Digitakt or Digitone Mk1, which are available for good prices on the second-hand market.

Elektron Outbox 8 will be available in the Summer (around June/July) for between 250 and 300 €.

  1. It’s cool.
I’m still patiently awaiting overbridge for IOS. People who spoke to Elektron said it seems to be “soon”, but nothing seems to have been mentioned formally? That will be “my” gamechanger as I love using AuV3 effects

  2. I’m glad they finally put something forward. It’ll be helpful for most people. Great solutions already exist. I’m running overwitch on a Linux machine with pipewire routing audio to mpc and es-9. Been testing for a few weeks now. I get syntakt and digitone tracks direct to/from mpc or es9 via USB. No DAW needed. Gonna start testing on raspi next week. Hopefully have a portable version that works with any audio interface before this starts shipping. *I’m not affiliated with the overwitch project.

  3. Analogue Heat +fx needs this to be compatible. If they figured it out somehow, this would corner the market. No one else comes close to providing a mastering component. It’s just missing the stems.

    • Analogue Heat+FX is physically analog and stereo only. If you don’t have more channels with overbridge, you won’t have them with this unit

  4. I get the idea of this product for the small Elektron boxes, but why would you use the Outbox 8 over the physical outputs, that are already present in Analog Four Mk2 and Analog Rytm Mk2? And in general, by using Outbox 8, you give up the big advantage the Overbridge Software has in your DAW projects, the total recall functionality.
