dukesrg has released LogueTSF, a new Korg plugin that brings soundfont (soundfont/SF2) playback support to the microKORG 2 and drumlogue.

A large community of developers has formed around the Korg SDK interface in recent years. This community has produced many exciting Korg plugins that significantly upgrade the SDK products. These range from new oscillators that introduce new synthesis methods to creative effects.

The developer dukesrg now demonstrates how far this technique can be taken. dukesrg has released the LogueTSF that brings soundfont to the Korg microKORG 2 and drumlogue.

LogueTSF is a new free Korg plugin that features a SoundFont loader for the Korg microKORG 2 and drumlogue. According to dukesrg, LogueTSF is based on the TinySoundFont library.

The installation is simple. Just copy your favorite.SF2 files to the programs folder of your synth. Of course, you also need to copy the LogueTSF plugin via the SDK librarian.

Tip: The open-source tool ConvertWithMoss lets you convert existing sound libraries to the Soundfont format.

The new option is great, but there’s a catch you need to know. Korg Drumlogue has only 32 MB of storage, so only small Soundfonts can be used. Not sure how much memory the new microKORG 2 has.

Also worth mentioning: the Korg plugin is now in alpha stage. The developer states:

“Sound artefacts/skipping can appear during SoundFont loading or a high number of sounding voices processed, due to CPU overload.”

First Impression

A great Korg plugin that once again beautifully expands these instruments and shows what this SDK makes possible.

dukesrg LogueTSF is available now as a free download and is compatible with the Korg microKORG 2 and drumlogue.

  1. So we basically have a new minikey-rompler now, kinda in the vain of the venerable Roland JD-Xi. Kinda nice. All that’s left for Korg is to implement the multi-timbrality in the next iteration.
