Superbooth 2026: Befaco teamed up with Mylar Melodies to introduce the Random8, a flexible 8-channel random-voltage generator module.
Barcelona-based company Befaco was on fire at Superbooth this year. First, they showcased the Iroi multi-FX module, and then the ARK groovebox with Tesseract Modular. But they didn’t stop there.
Befaco also presented the Random8 module together with YouTuber and musician Mylar Melodies.
Befaco Random8
Random8 is a compact 8HP 8-channel random voltage generator module for Eurorack. Alex, aka Mylar Melodies, had the idea for the Random8 and brought Befaco, based in Spain, on board as the developer.
If I’m not mistaken, this is the first module from Mylar Melodies. But is it just another classic random generator? No. That starts with the channels. Where many random voltage generators are limited to one or two channels, the Random8 module offers eight.
Yes, eight independent random voltage generators that can be bent in different fascinating ways. There are 8 different random voltage styles available, selectable per channel
- five different distributions of random voltages
- one alternating “high-then-low voltage
- two “wandering” voltages (like invisible hands turning controls).
Play With Random
It all starts by feeding the eight input triggers. For every trigger, you get random voltages at the red output sockets on that channel and below it. They produce classic randoms, but you can also loop (1-32 steps) or “partially” loop them for evolution over time.
Right out of the box, it has normalization. However, you can break them by inserting additional triggers into lower-down channels. This allows you to create a group of voltages. Each channel also has a dedicated output attenuator controlled with a trim pot.
It gets more exciting when you start interacting with the module. Each channel has a button that gives you different behaviors. This includes random, looping, and evolving, where voltages in memory change slowly over time.
The phrase of the latter can also be locked. Neat, each channel also includes a pitch quantizer with 16 available scales (including unquantized and a 1V stepped “octaves” scale), giving you endless melodic riffs.
Another clever addition is a slide function that lets users smooth out the hard steps between voltages, opening the door for various creative random signals: acid lines, complex LFO shapes, and more.
More Creativity, Including VCV Rack Version
Other creative features include per-channel probability for an organic feel, an input divider, and an offset to modify the voltages within its range, giving you other ways to use them: controlling VCAs to add per-step volume variations, and more.
A color-coded menu system is part of the module. I hope it doesn’t go too deep. Since Mylar Melodies is a live musician, I’m hoping it will be very practical. Presets can also be saved and recalled at any time. Firmware updates can be done via the USB-C port.
According to Alex, the Befaco RANDOM8 is designed to bring any-sized Eurorack system to life and help people perform and jam music more easily.
Nice, a VCV Rack version of RANDOM8 will be available at launch on June 15th, for anyone to download and use as they see fit.
Befaco Random8 First Impression
When you think of randomness, you think of blips and blobs. But if you use randomness in a way that fits the mood of your track, you can infuse any track with significantly more life.
The new RANDOM8 module from Mylar Melodies could be a very exciting module for these tasks. Instead of chaotic randomness, the module makes random voltages very playful and immediately usable with the buttons. It looks like a lot of fun.
Befaco Random8 will be available on June 15th, 2026, for 275€. A VCV Rack version will be out at the same time to try out the module.
