Superbooth 2026: Befaco ARK is a new Eurorack groovebox module in collaboration with Tesseract with built-in synth engines, sample playback, and sequencing.
Many people try to recreate the feel of a classic groovebox in Eurorack using drums, synths, sequencing, and so on. Depending on the budget, this can escalate into huge setups. But there’s another way, say voices from Barcelona.
At Superbooth 2026, the Spanish company Befaco presented the ARK, a Eurorack groovebox hub that includes everything a classic groove instrument offers.
Befaco ARK
ARK is described as a self-contained instrument and sequencer for the Eurorack world, developed in collaboration with Tesseract Modular, another Spanish developer.
At its core, ARK combines synthesis engines, sample playback, and CV generation with a complex sequencer. It’s like a marriage of the Turka and Vinia modules from Tesseract, but in Befaco clothes.
The module features 16 tracks, each driven by a flexible sequencer. On each track, you can load either a synthesis-based engine or sample based.
According to Befaco, there are various percussive engines, such as bass drum, kick, snare, and FM perc. On the bass/lead side, you get synth engines like acid, lead, bells, rubber, or modal. There are also some polysynths that work well with the chord tracks.
Alternatively, you can use samples with slicing, which can be played back from the module’s internal RAM or from a microSD card slot. Also onboard are harmony tools based on chord progressions and scales.
An internal mixer allows you to bring all the tracks together and apply effects and master dynamics.
The per-track sequencer features deterministic, stochastic, and Euclidean modes. Functions like modifying the note, velocity, length, or chance are available on the hardware and thus super hands-on. The same applies to the repeats, divisions, and more.
More importantly, crucial workflow features like copy, paste, clear, and undo functions are right on the buttons – neat! And ARK also features an internal modulation engine with 16 sources, perfect for modulating parameters without an extra module.
MIDI & CV Generation
The new Befaco ARK module is not just a kind of Eurorack groovebox, but also a hub for MIDI and CV generators. It can generate both audio and CV that can be routed to independent outputs or to the internal audio.
This means you can use the individual outputs as you want. For example, part of the track can be output as audio, while other parts are only sent as CV gates.
Alongside CV/gate generation, ARK is also a fully-fledged MIDI sequencer that sends out MIDI data per track. It also receives MIDI to modulate parameters or play the ARK’s synth engines.
On the connection side, you have MIDI in and out on TRS mini jacks, six CV inputs, eight CV and gate outputs, reset and clock in and out, and a USB-A host post. In 2026, I’d prefer a USB-C port.
The Befaco ARK is played via 16 clicky Cherry buttons, four knobs, and other buttons.
First Impression
At first glance, a very exciting groovebox for the Eurorack format. I’m curious to see how easy it is to operate. I hope you don’t get lost in the menu navigation. It’s a shame there’s no hands-on video from Superbooth 2026.
Befaco ARK will be available in late 2026 for a price of 666€ including VAT.
