SynthFest France 2026: Beatsurfing LOW is a bass Synthesizer plugin with 12 drawable “fluid” envelopes, giving you evolving mix-matching basslines.

When making electronic music, one usually uses a synth bass rather than a classic electric bass. The first question is: which synth? More importantly, the bass sound must fit the overall sound. Depending on the chosen sound, the bass must be further adjusted to blend seamlessly with the track.

Developer Pascal Demez from the Belgium company Beatsurfing finds this step too cumbersome and has developed Low, a bass synth plugin that already integrates this right in the sound engine.

Beatsurfing LOW

LOW is a bass-focused Synthesizer plugin designed for deep, expressive, and mix-ready low end. Beatsurfing has incorporated many things into LOW that make it very distinctive and unique. Even innovative compared to others.

It starts with the engine itself. LOW uses 20 different synth engines, each with its own distinct design. They have analog-style flavors for warm, full basses and digital flavors for edgy, gritty, modern sounds.

In a conversation with Pascal at SynthFest France, he said that each of them pursues new concepts and does not try to mimic synthesis from the classic synths (VA, FM…) we know.

Moreover, he said that this way is the best way to pay tribute to legendary synth engineers like Bob Moog and others. Every engine can be tweaked with a handful of parameters that work like macros. Plus, you have a visualizer that gives you real-time feedback on the sound.

Evolving Bass Tones

LOW’s core idea is to bring dynamics into basses and say goodbye to static sounds. Here, the bass exhibits a behavior that appears more active in the mix, yet remains clearly controllable from both the oscillator and envelope sides.

Yes, the envelopes play a major role here. LOW features 12 freely drawable, almost liquid envelopes that allow individual movement beyond the typical limitations of ADSR shapes. It’s like having multi-stage envelopes but without seeing them.

The first six can be found on the main UI, including DNA (gain, mutate), pitch (impact, drop), color, and bottom. Alongside the classic parameters, each engine can be further customized by the DNA engine, which is fully controllable with two envelopes.

These highly exciting, loopable fluid envelopes can also be found in the synth’s second half. Here, you can find a unique three-band amp envelope, where each band high, mid, and low) has its own envelope.

Unlike other synths, this allows you to fine-tune your basses right in the synth so they match perfectly in your mix. It also offers a unique twist in the stereo handling.

Beatsurfing LOW generates broad movement in the upper spectrum while remaining fully mono-compatible. This creates vibrant bass pads that work in clubs while still producing a modern sound. And again, everything is freely adjustable with the freely drawable envelopes.

Other features include: drawable key tracking, exporting your last played note via drag-and-drop as a one-shot audio file, and a unique polyphonic pitch glide.

Pascal gives you deeper insight into the LOW bass synth in my SynthFest France 2026 video. He also offers a glimpse into the future, explaining that they are working on making all plugins playable on tablets (iOS/Android).

First Impression

Are there still innovations in the Synthesizer plugin world after so many years? The answer is yes. The developers of the LOW Synthesizer prove it. It incorporates many exciting concepts that I haven’t seen before.

The 12 envelopes are particularly outstanding, allowing you to give the bass sound an evolving character that blends perfectly into the mix.

Beatsurfing LOW is available now for 74,50€ instead of 149€ for a limited time. It runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS and Windows.
