Moog pays tribute to the pioneering Bob Moog with a limited-edition version of its legendary Minimoog Synthesizer.

Two things are absolutely certain. The Minimoog is the most legendary Synthesizer ever made. It has shaped the music landscape like no other instrument and continues to do so today. Secondly, Bob Moog was a pioneer who brought the synth as instrument into the world.

Okay, there’s a third thing that’s certain. The Minimoog, Bob Moog’s first great success, is probably the Synthesizer that has been officially revived the most. And now it’s time for another round. Moog has introduced the striking Bob Moog Tribute Edition of the Minimoog synth.

In 1970, the Minimoog Model D redefined modern music-making as the first portable, performance-ready analog keyboard synthesizer—bringing the Moog sound to artists worldwide. This tribute edition honors that legacy and the visionary spirit of Bob Moog.

This limited-edition production run features a custom quartersawn oak wood enclosure, a unique back-panel decal, and an included SR Series travel case.

On the technical side, it has the same legendary 100% analog circuitry we all love, including three multi-wave oscillators, a ladder lowpass filter with contour control, two envelopes, and more.

The Bob Moog Tribute Edition of the Moog Minimoog also includes all the modern functional enhancements introduced with the instrument’s 2016 release, such as a dedicated analog LFO with triangle/square waveshapes and a premium FATAR keybed with velocity and aftertouch via top-panel CV jacks.

You also benefit from MIDI integration, improved pitch wheel calibration, and a mixer feedback modification. The latter allows the Minimoog Model D to overdrive and scream with the turn of a knob.

Further, it also incorporates the changes from the 2022 release, including a spring-loaded pitch wheel that returns to center upon release and MIDI improvements.

For artists like Gary Numan, Jimmy Jam, and Mark Mothersbaugh, the sound of the Minimoog Model D was a catalyst.

Loved for its warm, analog tone and intuitive, straightforward design, this timeless synthesizer’s influence transcends genres and generations.

Its distinctive basses, soaring leads, and classic filter character established the Model D as the archetype of what artists and listeners still imagine when they think of the synthesizer.

To honor Dr. Bob Moog’s legacy and impact on modern music technology, $500 from each unit sold will be donated directly to the Bob Moog Foundation, supporting the Moogseum, Dr. Bob’s Sound School, and the preservation of the Bob Moog Foundation Archives

First Impression

A beautiful new edition of the original Moog Minimoog. Paying tribute to Bob Moog’s achievements is always welcome. Even if it’s in the form of Minimoog reissues.

In this tribute version, you are also supporting the Bob Moog Foundation, which carries on the legacy and also runs a great museum. That’s a welcome bonus.

I hope that the original form of this legendary synth will never disappear from the market, even if we need so many reissues for it that we don’t actually need. As long as it doesn’t disappear, they should come.

The Bob Moog Tribute Edition of the Moog Minimoog is available now for $3999/4799€. It’s hand-built in the US.

  1. Every year a new minimoog or maybe a subscription :))… corporations are best at destroying a legend for profit, they call the minimoog a collector’s item and produce refreshed versions of the same thing every now and then… it’s pathetic, like InMusic’s policy.

  2. the reddy Lee ah geddy Lee was much more beautiful. why another very similar looking Like the normal one? old walnutversions were the nicest imho.
