Reason 14 is the first version of Reason Studios’ DAW under the new LANDR umbrella, with dark mode, new reverb, a better sequencer, and more.
At the beginning of the year, shortly before NAMM, the first big news broke: Reason Studios was acquired by LANDR. Their stated goal was to further develop Reason and to integrate their AI tools step by step.
Less than half a year has passed, and a new Reason 14 has been announced, the first version being released under the Landr guise.
Reason 14
When you open Reason 14 for the first time, two things become apparent. Firstly, Reason remains what it was before. However, it feels newer because it now includes a default dark mode across the entire DAW.
The new interface stays consistent with your theme settings. The sequencer, mixer section, with its faders, and all other sections are now in a darker design – good decision.
In addition to the new coloring, it also features new navigation buttons for the track panel, edit area, groove moxer, and more. The Ex-Propellerheads, now developers at Reason Studios, say it’s a cleaner, more focused environment that lets your music take center stage.
Version 14 also changes the way you work between the sequencer and the audio side. With the new track panel, you can tweak parameters of instruments and effects, change signals, and browse patches right in the sequencer without flipping the view.
I worked with Reason for a while. I still love the instruments and effects, but the constant switching back and forth can get annoying over time if you’re used to Ableton Live or Bitwig.
This new track-centric workflow can significantly change things here. I need to take a closer look to see if it works as smoothly as advertised.
Updated Sequencer & More Improvements
Over the past few years, many users have expressed a desire for deeper sequencer functionality. I have to agree with them, as no major progress has been made in that area in Reason 12 or 13.
Reason 14 addresses some of the user-requested functions. The new version introduces Track Folders, smarter clips, and an improved and more intuitive piano roll. Reason Studios says the whole sequencer moves faster, while your arrangement looks as organized as it sounds.
You can also now finally loop clips and work properly with velocity. There are also other smaller improvements that improve the workflow, including automatic tempo detection on import and MIDI note chase, which keep everything moving.
The RV7000 MkII Successor & More Content
The devices section of Reason 14 hasn’t had a major upgrade. There’s no new Synthesizer or instrument, but there is a new effect. The all-time classic RV7000 MKII reverb gets a successor with the RV-9 Reverb Station.
It’s a true reverb station that goes behind classic reverbs. It has the classic algorithms like room, hall, arena, cathedral, spring, plate, but also more experimental ones like spectral, granular, and echoverb.
Further, it has a pre-delay, built-in ducking, precise controls such as decay and filtering, and a shimmer processor with four modes. And of course, the new RV9 will also be part of the new Reason Rack 14 plugin.
Finally, they added over 900 new drum samples, 50 fresh Europa patches, and 20 new impulse responses for the RV7000 reverb.
Reason 14 First Impression
Almost two years after R13, Reason 14 is now here. The update to Reason 14 looks more solid compared to R13 because it addresses more user feedback. The fact that you no longer have to switch between sub-windows sounds like a significant improvement.
I never fully embraced Reason’s workflow, but I still love the content. That’s why I’ve been a huge fan of the Rack plugin since day one.
I’m happy to see that the Rack plugin is being retained. So, you can use all these classic devices and the new reverb station with the same old-school Reason modular workflow in Ableton Live and any other DAW as well. Creating modular instruments or FXs is still fun in 2026.
Interestingly, the AI tools LANDR announced in its acquisition haven’t yet been included in Reason 14. Perhaps they’ll come with a later update.
Reason 14 is available now for beta testing. Every full version and update purchase of Reason 13 or Reason Rack 13 made from March 1, 2026, includes a free upgrade to the next version, available May, 2026.
Reason+ and Reason Rack subscribers will automatically receive the update. Reason 13 is now on a limited-time sale for 139€, and Reason 13 Rack plugin for 119€.
