AIR Fabric Vintage Synths Vol. 1: new collection with sample-based Prophet, Jupiter, and Memorymoog synthesizers for standalone MPCs and DAW.

If you want to work with sounds of vintage synths, you can use replicas, emulations, or sample-based instruments. AIR has opted for the latest product for the latter.

With the Fabric Vintage Synth Vol. 1, AIR Music Tech has released a new collection of vintage synth instruments for the standalone MPC and for your DAW.

AIR Fabric Vintage Synths Vol. 1

AIR Fabric Vintage Synths Vol. 1

The new AIR Fabric Vintage Synths Vol. 1 is a new virtual instrument collection in collaboration with Akai Professional. It consists of three classic polysynth-inspired virtual instruments: Fabric Vintage Pro, Vintage Jup, and Fabric Vintage Memorymoog.

For decades, analog polysynths defined the sound of electronic music, but their cost and rarity have kept them out of reach for many producers. Fabric Vintage Synths, Vol. 1 brings that sonic character into a modern, accessible format designed for today’s workflows.

All three instruments are multi-sample-based and use the Akai Fabric sound engine, a multi-sample synthesis platform at their core.

As the names suggest, these are based on multi-sampled vintage synths: the Roland Jupiter 8, the Sequential Prophet-5, and the Moog Memorymoog. The latter has its full name because Moog is part of inMusic.

Each instrument features dual multi-sample oscillators plus a percussive layer. A sub-oscillator and noise generator add extra depth. Then, they have independent filters, envelopes, and LFOs per layer, as well as global modulation with BPM-syncable LFOs.

In addition, each Fabric instrument includes a five-slot effects suite with distortion, delay, and reverb processors. Alongside these, they offer a dynamic arpeggiator with swing, ratchet, and randomization, full MPE compatibility, and macro controls.

A unified interface and shared architecture allow users to move seamlessly between instruments without relearning controls.

According to AIR/Akai, these instruments give musicians access to the sounds of these historically limited, rare, and expensive hardware synths, but with modern flexibility.

First Impression

Anyone looking for classic vintage sounds from these three vintage synths for the MPC and wanting to go on a nostalgic trip will certainly find what they’re looking for here. It’s a bit of a shame that they aren’t emulations.

AIR Fabric Vintage Synths Vol. 1 is available now for an introductory price of $119 through May 10, after which it will retail for $299 MSRP. Individual instruments are available for $59.

It’s compatible with the MPC standalone, MPC Desktop, and all major DAWs. It runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
