Zoom LiveTrak L6max is the big brother of the battery-powered digital mixer and multi-track recorder L6, with more channels and features.
Update: It’s available now for $399,99/449€ from Thomann, Sweetwater, and other stores.
One of the most popular Zoom products in recent months has undoubtedly been the compact mixer and multi-track recorder L6. You can see it in countless live setups. I recently bought one myself, as I’m often on the road jamming with friends.
If I’d waited a little longer, I would have had a choice between two. Zoom today introduced the LiveTrak L6max, the L6 version for people who need more.
Zoom LiveTrak L6max
The new LiveTrak L6max is the big brother of its beloved Zoom LiveTrak L6 portable 32-bit mixer and recorder. It features all the main features of the smaller L6, including the battery operation, but with new features, taking it to the max level.
The LiveTrak L6max features four combo inputs (including two Hi-Z) and eight line inputs, giving you 12 channels with the full flexibility you need for any session. That’s two more channels than on the original L6 mixer.
Each channel offers dedicated illuminated controls with buttons to mute channels or activate the Hi-Z and 48V features. The L6max also supports 32-bit float, and channels 1-4 have dual-AD converters, keeping mic signals pristine across extreme dynamics.
Channels 5-8 include a -20dB Pad switch so you can handle loud sources such as vintage synths and Eurorack modules. With this function, you don’t need an attenuator – a neat improvement compared to the Zoom L6.
Then, unlike the L6, it has two headphone outputs with one customizable sub-out mix that lets you monitor exactly what you need, wherever you are on stage or in a jam. This is also a great addition that makes it more flexible.
Also onboard are the two AUX sends with pre/post-fader options for FX loops and monitor feeds.
More Advanced Features
A highlight and a new feature of the Zoom LiveTrak L6max is the new high-contrast OLED display that helps you create projects and adjust settings with ease.
This is a good addition over the L6, which is missing there, but the operation of the L6 is also quite good without it. The LiveTrak L6max houses the multi-FX section of the regular L6, but in an expanded form.
First, you get a new AI noise reduction feature that the mixer intelligently removes hum, hiss, and background noise, while preserving every detail of your voice and instruments. How good it sounds would have to be seen in a test; I’m always a bit cautious about that.
Next to this, you have a 3-band EQ for every channel with low, high, and mid EQ settings. The reverb, delay, and echo send effects are also part of the feature set. You can use the tap key function to set the delay time.
Also new in the Zoom LiveTrak L6max is a master track compressor that adds punch and saturation to your mix. Don’t forget, you have 32-bit, so your audio will never clip, even at high volumes.
Recorder
A big highlight of the L6 and L6max is the ability to record on a microSD card. The L6max can capture up to 12 individual tracks plus a stereo mix directly to a microSD card with up to 2TB. Projects can be saved and recalled for mixing anytime.
Further, it has unlimited overdubbing features. You can mix and bounce tracks to the dedicated ‘bounce track’’ freeing up additional channels to keep adding layers. If the bounce doesn’t hit the mark, ‘undo’ it and try again. Even after a bounce, Individual files are saved to the SD card for
Not to forget, the LiveTrak L6max is also a 32-bit 12-in / 4-out USB audio interface for your computer, iOS, or Android device. It has a dual function, allowing you to use it simultaneously as an audio interface and audio recorder. It’s also a control surface for your favorite DAW.
Other features include a scene memory with up to four recallable mixes, four sound pads with MIDI sync, and full MIDI I/O and USB MIDI support. The settings are also fully customizable using the new L6 editor app.
Like the L6, you can power the new Zoom LiveTrak L6max via AA batteries, USB bus power, or a mobile battery pack, making it super portable. And yes, you can also mount it in your Eurorack using the optional ERL-6 rack ears and power supply.
First Impression
A very surprising new release from Zoom. I’m pleased to see that Zoom has recognized what the market is lacking and is now delivering.
The features on my L6 are sufficient for my needs, but the new extras on the L6max are nice and will undoubtedly find their users.
The Zoom LiveTrak L6max will be available in Q4 2025 for $399,99/459€/£394 including VAT.

Some great updates here, and the MIDI sync for the soundpads now turns it into a (theoretical) usable, basic 4-track stereo looper. I’m dissappointed that one of the more common user requests wasn’t honored here, though – stereo Aux sends. This seems very marketed to the electronic musician, most of whom use stereo effects. The new sub-mix could function as a single stereo Aux send, but then you’re losing the sub-mix.
good information
I can really benefit from this.
