discoDSP Discovery Pro 8.10 is a free update for 8.0 users, adding 16x oversampling and more to the Nord Lead 2 emulation on steroids.
As many probably know, the developers of The Usual Suspect offer a free emulator software (Nord Red 2x) for the Nord Lead 2 synthesizer. However, they weren’t the first to emulate it.
For many years, discoDSP has offered emulations of the Nord Lead 2 with its Discovery and Discovery Pro synthesizers, emulations that go significantly beyond the original. Discovery Pro is currently at version 8, and discoDSP released v8.10 today, making it even better.
discoDSP Discovery Pro 8 Update 8.10
As a reminder: discoDSP Discovery Pro 8 is a multi-layer virtual analog Synthesizer based on the Nord Lead 2 but with extra features, including SFZ, WAV, and SoundFont support, PADSynth re-synthesis, and extra filters.
discoDSP has further enhanced the engine with significant additions. The new update introduces 16x oversampling for offline bounce, giving you the maximum audio quality option to final renders with dedicated high-resolution delay buffers.
Then, you can now control which note plays when triggering chords in mono/legato mode. In the voices configuration pop-up, you can choose between five modes: Last Note (default), First Note, Lowest Note (ideal for bass), Highest Note (ideal for leads), and Random Note. This also works per-layer and has backward compatibility for existing presets.
Update 8.10 also introduces per-voice panning mode in the PAN preset menu, where each mode in a chord gets its own pan position based on individual velocity. This creates a natural stereo spread with each voice maintaining an independent LFO phase.
The filter pop-up menu now also features a new classic filters toggle. You can now select per-layer whether to use the modern or classic filter algorithms.
The Classic mode gives you more vintage character, while the modern provides a smoother sound and better stability. According to discoDSP, this affects the LP12, LP24, HP12, HP24, BP24, BR24, and Formant filters.
Discovery 8.10 also brings CPU optimizations, HiDPI display, and plugin platform improvements, including proper scaling, MIDI out support for the VST2/VST3 formats, and more.
