TapeFi Stop is a free, flexible vinyl stop simulator plugin for macOS and Windows with advanced features like a built-in washout effect.
In mid-May, I reported on the new company TapeFi and their first plugin, Fail, a free tape emulation plugin for macOS and Windows with a solid feature set.
With the second plugin, they stay in the same vintage fields, and it’s again a free release.
TapeFi Stop
Stop is a new vinyl stop simulator plugin for macOS and Windows. According to TapeFi, Stop was designed to capture the soul of real turntables and tape machines. This includes the famous pitch drifts, the curves of the slowdown, the dusty vinyl textures, and more.
The plugin offers the classic slowdown effect, aka tape stop, that is syncable to your DAW with selectable pitch ranges (-48 / -36 / -24 / -12). You can shape your stop effect with the curve control slider, giving you smooth linear fades to warped, curvy drop-offs.
TapeFi has also added new features to the plugin to make the effect more extensive and creative. A vinyl noise layer adds dusty, record vinyl textures for instant nostalgia.
Then, the new step mode turns your stops into a more experimental effect by adding glitchy, stutter-style stop patterns to them.
Next to this is the digi effect that produces crunchy, downsampled slowdowns, while washout adds lush reverb and delay to them to achieve spacious, dreamy washes.
First Impression
A neat second plugin from the new developer company TapeFi. Welcome to see that it’s a free plugin again.
TapeFi Stop is available now as a free download. It runs as a 64-bit VST2, VST3, and AU plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
