Blinksonic Liquifi + Ignita bundles two experimental-oriented granular and spectral tools for Reaktor 6, designed for sonic explorations.
Reaktor 6 is a modular Synthesizer, effects processor, and platform that allows you to create a wide range of tools. You can find the basics, including VA synths, as well as super complex ones that combine various synthesis concepts.
A developer who always provides Reaktor gems is Blinksonic, and today again with the new Liquifi + Ignita bundle.
Blinksonic Liquifi + Ignita
Liquifi + Ignita is a new toolbox, consisting of a new instrument and an effect processor for Reaktor 6.
Important: the Blinksonic Liquifi + Ignita ensembles require the full version of Native Instruments Reaktor 6 and are not compatible with Reaktor 6 Player.
A Dancing Spectral Processor
Let’s start with the first tool. Liquifi is a spectral processor that uses an FFT algorithm with spectral resynthesis to turn audio input into a fluid sound material. The data that the processor captures is used to drive an internal sinebank that resynthesizes the sound.
You can control this processing with seven distinct parameters: smooth, fragments, partials, floor, flat, and fluid gate. Part of this is a spectral reassignment process that opens the door for sound texture transformation effects.
To make the resynthesized sounds also shine harmoniously, Blinksonic Liquifi also incorporated a built-in phase vocoding processor.
It utilizes an auto-tune process that can be applied not only to harmonize vocals but also to chords, drums, acoustic loops, noises, and more. This polyphonic auto-tune quantizes your frequency data to a chosen scale from 24 models.
One of the exciting and fun aspects of Blinksonic products is that their synthesizers and effects are constantly evolving. They’re always moving, sometimes slower, and sometimes like at a wild frequency party, to cover a vast spectrum of sounds.
More Fun
Liquifi also has built-in effects and modulation, opening the dance floor for even wilder frequency parties. A virtual keyboard with 36 MIDI notes, yes, the gray one, enables you to trigger and record “punch-in effect” events.
This can be four spectral granulation movements, two note modulations, six spectral pre-pitch positions, and 24 scale switches.
Additionally, parameters such as the reverb dry/wet, main signal dry/wet, and the freeze FX feature a fully controllable random LFO assignment. So, the parameters are constantly in motion, and to take it a step further, it also features a harmonic animator in the form of an X/Y trackpad with recordable automation.
The results the tool produces have a unique dynamic, reminiscent of liquid. The weird thing is that they can sound clear but also just as distorted as if they were rushing through an 80s-tuned bit crusher. A perfect tool for experimental sound exploration.
Granular Instrument
Alongside Blinksonic Liquifi, the toolbox also includes Ignita, a unique virtual instrument for Reaktor 6. According to the developer, it’s a simplified and hybrid version of their fascinating AETONZ° virtual sampler synth.
It has two sample layers and uses the same granular synthesis engine as the AETONZ° ensemble, but without the additional effects. Ignita serves as a dedicated audio exciter and sound source for the Liquifi audio processor.
However, it is not an ordinary sampler playback engine. It utilizes a unique sample launching system, where you receive a random sample with each gate event, and an X/Y pad for navigating through the 208 available snapshots.
Using the X/Y pad, you can constantly achieve new sounds by switching between presets. The sounds that come out of the instrument are purely a matter of luck or arise from happy accidents.
The granular engine part utilizes input from both samples, rearranging them into new soundscapes and textures.
Like in Liquifi FX, the sound is in constant motion, while the harmony remains active. The built-in dynamic processor ensures that every result is different. Plus, you can work with an ADSR envelope.
The fun thing is that Liquifi FX can be used standalone as Reaktor FX in the DAW or in a colorful, spectral, granular marriage with Ignita.
First Impression
Liquifi + Ignita once again demonstrated that Reaktor 6 should not be overlooked as a platform. Blinsonic offers here two exciting tools that allow you to delve into the depths of spectral sound design.
