4Pockets Oscidia is a new advanced wavetable Synthesizer plugin for iOS (iPhone/iPad) and macOS with wavetable import, wavefolding & more.

Wavetable synthesis has been the big topic in the Synthesizer world for the past four to five years. Countless hardware and software synthesizers have been released. Now, the granular approach is being embraced.

Although new wavetable synths are still being released regularly, a new one is now available on iOS. 4Pockets, developer of the beautiful WaveCloud and StringLab synths, has just released Oscidia, a new wavetable Synthesizer with advanced features.

Oscidia is a new feature-rich AUv3 wavetable Synthesizer plugin for iOS and macOS. With a single purchase, you get both versions.

4Pockets Oscidia has three oscillators per voice, and each oscillator can host a different waveform or wavetable. You can choose between sine, saw, square, triangle, supersaw, supersquare, and a wavetable.

Of course, it’s possible to import and export compatible wavetables using drag and drop directly to the built-in wavetable manager.

A unique feature is the additive wavetable, with which you can craft your own shapes using three additive modes: additive, FM1, and FM2, each with different parameters—an excellent addition for glassy and metallic sounds.

Then, the wavetables also support morphing and warping (phase distortion) capabilities. You can do this manually or in motion using the mod matrix.

The SINE and TRIANGLE wave types both support several wave folding modes, which allow dramatic real-time morphing, too. Additionally, you can work with oscillator sync, XMOD, and ring mod between OSC1 and OSC2. Plus, there is a noise generator.

From here, it goes into a multimode filter section with five different filter types: 12/24dB modes and morphable LP/BP/HP filter modes. You can tweak them manually with the usual controls or automate them with the mod matrix.

On the modulation table, you can find four envelopes that can be switched to classic ADSR behavior or to FEGs (Fluid Envelope Generators) with multiple segments.

There are also four multi-wave LFOs per voice. All this modulation is programmable with the built-in modulation matrix.

To refine your sounds, 4Pockets Oscidia also hosts a multi-FX processor with various algorithms: reverb, delay, chorus, Haas, and Phaser.

Another highlight of the synth is its unique arpeggiator/sequencer. It allows you to play up to three simultaneous ARPs at the same time.

Each ARP can directly control various parameters of the synth engine, including three oscillator levels independently per step, pitch, filter morph, and cutoff. Alongside this, it can control sequencer parameters like probability, gate, note repeat, and ties. This gives you tons of flexibility.

For users of expressive keyboards, it is also good to know that 4Pockets Oscidia is fully MPE compatible. The synth also ships with various presets that showcase the engine. I linked below videos from the developer.

First Impression

This looks like a beautiful, powerful Synthesizer for iOS. The fact that it’s also compatible with macOS is a welcome bonus. Since I use and value the 4pockets StringLab and WaveCloud apps a lot (part of my live setup), I expect this app will be at the same level and end up on my device.

4Pockets Oscidia is available now for $14,99/17,99€ on the Apple App Store. It runs as a standalone app and AUv3 plugin on iOS (iPhone, iPad) and macOS (Apple Silicon computers only).
